The Polish Automotive Industry Association and the Polish Caravanning Group present a report on the registration of new and used campers and caravans in the first quarter of 2023, based on data from the Central Vehicle Register.

Jakub Faryś, president of the Polish Automotive Industry Association, says: “After many quarters of significant increases, registrations of new camping vehicles and trailers have clearly slowed down. The larger decline we have seen in new camper registrations is the result of chassis availability issues and the still-felt effects of the COVID epidemic, the semiconductor crisis and the disruption of supply chains.

Registrations of used motorhomes remain at last year's level, while registrations of used caravans have increased slightly. This reflects the general trend on the domestic automotive market, where, due to the level of wealth of buyers, used vehicles - including campers - are still more popular.

Observing the situation in the production sector, we can only hope that the recent increases in car prices, the increase in the prices of raw materials used for the production of vehicles and bodies, and high inflation will not significantly affect the trailer and camper market in the coming months and that it will gradually grow.

Sebastian Klauz, vice-president of PGC, publisher of the Polski Caravaning magazine, comments: “The results of the registration of new vehicles leave no doubt. We are returning to the continuation of the pre-pandemic growth trend. We must forget about the times of abnormal COVID surges. It is also difficult to assess the market year to year when the situation has changed dramatically in recent years.

In the new vehicle category, there are reshuffles in the positions of individual brands. VW is still the undisputed leader, but the second position is taken away by the Roller Team brand by Benimar. This is the first such case in history.

Another fact worth noting is the fourth position of the luxury brand Carthago. This shows the age-old truth that wealthy people are not susceptible to poor economic conditions.

There has also been a reshuffle in trailers. Hobby remains in the unshakable first position, but a change took place in subsequent places due to the constantly growing sales of the Niewiadów brand.

In our comparison, we notice a completely different situation in the used vehicle category. This market segment is doing much better.

Campers with a symbolic minus and trailers with a large increase, as much as 12%, show increased supply abroad. Poles are eager to buy them, thus building a base of camping vehicles on the Polish market. This, in turn, will increase the demand for service.”
