The Friuli-Venezia Giulia region is not only the most Balkan area of the Etruscan country, but also the Italian gateway to Central Europe. The region, torn by many wars in the past, was as important as the center of Italy. It is also the land of two languages: Italian and Friulian, it is a land where the lively Forlan dance reigns, often used by French composers. Trieste is undoubtedly the pearl of the region - the capital city, a typically Italian center, and at the same time with clearly visible influence of its neighbors: Austria and the countries of the Balkan Peninsula.

Walk around Trieste

Amateurs of lounging on the sand under the sun will not be delighted with this coastal city - we will not find a beach here. However, this is no reason not to visit this region during your vacation in Italy . Trieste is above all an important transport junction of the country, with an international airport, a large railway station and a seaport. The seaside boulevards, which are the beginning of the old town, perfectly reflect the multicultural character of Trieste - square buildings with an almost perpendicular street grid and order and cleanliness resemble Austrian towns. The port itself, despite the commercial and tourist hustle and bustle, can also be a romantic place. In the evenings, when it is cooler, hikers can admire the panorama of the seaside part of the old town while strolling through the concrete Audence pier. Right next to the boulevards you will find the city's main square, Piazza Unità d'Italia . Its area is over 12,000m². Around the square there are beautiful palaces and buildings from the period when Trieste was an important economic center for Austria-Hungary. Miramare Castle should be a must-see for every tourist visiting the city. The building, erected on the head of a rocky cape right on the seashore, was built in the 19th century. An interesting fact is that almost every room in the castle has a sea view. It is also worth paying attention to the park next to the castle. It is covered with vegetation from all continents.

Holidays in the Italian capital of coffee

Despite the hustle and bustle, constant traffic in the port and on the Piazza Unità d'Italia square, Trieste is an ideal place not only for enthusiasts of intensive sightseeing and absorbing tourist attractions with all senses. It is also an excellent choice for people who want to sit on the wall and enjoy their coffee. Perhaps not many people know yet, but the city is referred to as the Italian capital of coffee . The company which produces Illy coffee, which is also popular in Poland, and the less known but equally prestigious Hausbrandt have their headquarters here. In Trieste, there is an extremely original center - Università del caffè , i.e. the University of Coffee. Willing people can learn everything about coffee in it - special courses and trainings, and even postgraduate studies are held here. It is a real tourist pearl of both the city and the region. During a holiday in Friuli Venezia Giulia , many tourists will dream of a cup of aromatic, strong coffee, so ... it is enough to come to Trieste for it.

Where the dice were thrown
Alea iacta est ("The dice were cast") - history tells us that Julius Caesar uttered these words over 2,000 years ago, crossing the Rubicon River. The event started a bloody civil war that torn the Roman republic over the years. Rubicon formed the natural border of Italy with Pre-Alpine Gaul. The passing of Caesar and his army to the other side was tantamount to a declaration of war. It didn't take long for the waters of the river to run down with blood. Centuries have passed since the events that changed the history of the country known today as Italy . Nowadays, Rubicon no longer creates a border, the crossing of which is associated with making decisions of great importance. Today it is simply a small river flowing from the Northern Apennines to the Adriatic Sea, winding through northern Italy and ending its way at Gatteo A Mare. While exploring the estuary on foot, we come across a bronze bust of Julius Caesar, reminding us of the famous words spoken by the river. Fortunately, today we can cross the Rubicon without getting our feet wet by crossing the wooden suspension bridge. On the other side is the charming seaside resort of Savignano Mare - perfect for a family holiday . Not only people who want to relax by the warm sea come here, but also tourists who want to get to know as many attractions as possible in this part of the Italian coast in their vacation plans. And it must be admitted that it is a great base for visiting nearby resorts. The town is just 5 km away from Cesenatico, with its stunning port, which was said to be designed by the master himself, Leonardo da Vinci, and the charming old town that surrounds it. From Rimini, which is well-deserved as one of the most famous holiday resorts not only on the Adriatic Riviera, but on the whole of Italy - 12 km. Riccione, known as the Green Pearl of the Adriatic, is 25 km away. Further on, there are centers of great historical and cultural importance - including Ravenna, Florence and Venice.
