Holidays in Cyprus - there is no question of boredom
Lovers of sun, beautiful beaches, clear water, good cuisine and wine visit Cyprus in large numbers every year - especially since holidays in Cyprus can be organized at a really reasonable price. What else does this country steeped in Turkish and Greek influences offer?
Cyprus is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, located off the coast of Turkey, Syria and Lebanon. The north of the island is "Turkish" and the south is "Greek". It is the south of the country that is well connected by air with most European capitals. We can only reach Cyprus by plane, unless we plan to travel from Turkey. Ferries run from there to the northern part of the country.
Sunny island
Cyprus is an island bathed in sunshine. Throughout the year, we have quite high temperatures here, although in winter it is clearly cooler and there are some rainfalls. Summer in Cyprus is very hot, especially on the northern Turkish side. Spring and autumn, on the other hand, offer us pleasant warmth with plenty of sunshine. That's when it is worth renting a scooter or a car, or opting for shorter hiking trips around this beautiful island. We can organize holidays in Cyprus in many ways, and travel agencies will gladly help us.
Cyprus beaches
Cypriot beaches attract thousands of lovers of relaxation by the water, because they are not only beautiful, but also clean. As many as 39 of them received the Blue Flag - proof that they meet environmental standards. Among them we can find sandy ones with golden sand and pebble ones, which in turn are distinguished by the clearest water. If we want to take a break from the hustle and bustle, let's go to the west coast of the island. If we are interested in diving, let's take advantage of the exceptional transparency of the turquoise waters surrounding the island from the east. For those who do not mind the crowd, we recommend visiting, for example, the famous Finikoudes beach in Larnaca, where, in addition to sand and warm water, you will find palm trees and numerous cafes and facilities for the disabled.
Between Larnaca and Limassol lies the attractive Governor's Beach, which with its extensive tourist infrastructure encourages water sports such as windsurfing and snorkeling.
In the Paphos region, we should visit Petra Tou Romiou beach, which provided inspiration for artists. Among the picturesque rocks protruding from the sea, we can find the famous Aphrodite's Rock. It was here that the goddess of love was to emerge from the sea foam. Aphrodite is a symbol of Cyprus.
Ayia Napa is a resort known for its bars, discos and pubs. This place never sleeps and the famous Nissi Beach is very well-kept.
Monuments of Cyprus
Cyprus is a place with a history that goes back to antiquity, and the Greek and Turkish influences, which were and are very strong, make it a very attractive destination for visitors. In the south of the island, you must visit the Neolithic settlement of Chirokitia, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In the south-west, we will visit the bustling Paphos that remembers ancient times - the old part of the city dates back to the 14th century BC and was also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, with the ruins of the former temple of Aphrodite and other ancient remains.
Heading northwest of the city, we find an impressive ensemble of tombs carved into the rock. The Royal Tombs in Paphos date from the period between the 4th century BC and the 3rd century AD
In the center of Cyprus, visit the medieval churches of the Troodos region. The historic complex of temples comes from the period from the 11th to the 16th century. The extremely colorful frescoes and paintings inside these seemingly modest buildings make an impression. 9 churches and 1 monastery were entered on the UNESCO list.
