Project # PajeroCamper4x3 - travel reports - Turkey
It was a country that always intrigued me; but not so much that my time would fail to dispel my curiosity.
Of course, the desire to visit the east of the country was an exciting thought, because of my pessimism, distant. I was assuming, in consciousness, very Asian scenarios. We were already with Asia in various corners of the largest continent, here was a new curiosity.
After all, I was counting on a much worse condition of the road surface. Greater wildness of the local community. I was expecting "sociological imbalance". Dirty streets and the stench of burning rubbish.
So it has become a big disappointment that Turkey is a fantastic non-existence of Eurasia.
Curiosity and delight
Modernity not only of the middle class. Complete freedom. Apart from extreme social percentages, the country is very developed in aspects, not only in architecture, industry, and logistics. Turks, departing from the fact of high entrepreneurship, can be considerate (apart from other Asian countries). Technologically; we would need, as Europe, to speed up to keep the pace.
As an example of which many, I will give the police control. A car / driver, checked by an officer with a tablet, without leaving the interior of the driver - up to 2 minutes. Doesn't matter if with a traffic fine or not. Everything remotely and without papers.
Wild bazaars vs modern restaurants and hotels. Cheap fuel (diesel on average 3 PLN for 1 liter). Expensive and hardly available alcohol. A taste of Asia in cooking. Very little knowledge of English, regardless of the place (Istanbul, Ankara or a distant province). The desire to get in touch with the locals, manual but with great enthusiasm on their part, which we appreciate very much.
Naturalism and good looking nationalism
Several conversations with restaurateurs, people grazing sheep and goats, the police, traders, parking lots, coffee makers; they gave us the feeling that people could decide relatively easily on the way. All our observations are cursory from just 4,300 km (which we have driven) in a vast and diverse country. The sense of security we had when traveling with our Mitsubishi confirms our belief that it is definitely worth seeing this country. He proposes much more than a hotel room and a beach.
Natural places are breathtaking. It has been a long time since I had the chance to experience such exotic attractiveness. I remember my infatuation with Africa, Kazakhstan and the Arctic. Turkey is a place of high color "attractions" for people like us; temporary visitors. Cappadocia, Pamukkale , Efes, Derinkuyu / Kaymakli, Antalya or Istanbul, Ankara ... It's hard to see how the "attractions" can intimidate you, bring you a sense of beauty. Deep reflection in the wide arteries of ancient Efes. How much the man was able to. Houses in rocks, something ... Underground cities ... Turkey is a country of great historical events. The scent of some still hangs between office buildings and modern universities in the east of the country. It connects two continents that are so different and so close.
