Tabarka - a paradise for divers – main image

Imagine beautiful coral reefs, a sandy beach and green hills crisscrossed by merrily murmuring streams. This is Tabarka, a small town on an island in the northern part of Tunisia.

There is no shortage of great diving spots in Europe. However, not every one can boast of reefs so beautiful that several countries fought for them centuries ago. And it was like that (several times) in the case of the coral reefs of Tabarka, a small island in the north of Tunisia. It is covered with hills densely covered with orange, fig and olive trees. There are also cypresses, pines and cork oaks, and picturesque bays and a rocky coast complete the landscape.

In fact, Tabarka is more of an archipelago than an island. In its immediate vicinity there are even smaller sisters: La Nao, La Galera and La Cantera. We will get there by ferry from the ports located in Alicante, Torrevieja and Santa Pola. You can also get there by plane from Tunisia's capital Tunis.

Tabarka coral reefs

Many tourists consider Tabarka one of the quietest and greenest cities in Tunisia. The local coral reefs attract crowds of diving and film enthusiasts each year - the resort hosts a festival of underwater films and photos, as well as several music festivals.

Tabarka is very liked by both scuba divers and coral lovers. One of the most popular souvenirs brought from the island is coral jewelry, and the coral festival is also very popular.

The most beautiful coral reefs can be found in the National Marine Park, as well as near the rocky islets of La Galite. There are about 20 places to dive here, and the best for beginners is the Pigeon Grotto with a rocky, colorful bottom and water full of tiny fish. The depth of the cave is between 3-12 meters. The 10-meter-wide Hake Rock is also noteworthy. It is said that hake weighing up to 40 kg swim in it.

Cape Tabarka offers divers colorful shoals of fish and a water depth of 3 to 20 meters. The enormous wealth of fauna and flora, including colorful anemones, majestic octopuses, amusing crawfish, as well as a rocky bottom with a lot of algae and rare black corals - these are the advantages of the local waters.

Water and land attractions

In addition to diving, the island's guests can windsurf, fly over the waves on paragliders, and take to the air with a balloon. It is also an ideal place for trekking, fishing and sunbathing on the sandy beach on the eastern side of the island. Golfers also like Tabarka - many come here especially to play on the 18-hole course located on the islet. It has a restaurant and a golf club. The field is not only large, but also exceptionally beautiful - on one side it is crowned with a beach and on the other with a pine and oak forest.

It is worth mentioning that Tabarka is a marine reserve where you can get acquainted with fish species that we will not see anywhere else. It is worth taking advantage of the courses offered by numerous cruise ships, each of which has a transparent bottom, perfect for observing underwater life. You can also take your snorkeling equipment with you - here it will be especially useful.

Tabarka also attracts with its Roman ruins and a 16th-century fort, which today houses a museum with mosaics. The original rock formations resembling columns and the lush flora of the island are also a tourist attraction.

Regardless of whether we want to spend a vacation splashing in the water, lounging on the beach or wandering among orange and olive trees, we will spend unforgettable moments on this tiny island.

City of free tapas - Granada
The streets of Granada are narrow, the houses are close together, which makes it easy to get lost. It is not without reason that the name of the city refers to the pomegranate - a fruit in which the seeds form a tight collection, huddled together like a close-knit family. Granada's main street is crowded and noisy. It does not differ much from other large streets in other cities in Spain or other countries - it is full of fast food bars and designer boutiques. However, it is enough to enter the tangle of side streets to discover the charm of this place. They create an atmospheric labyrinth in which the eye comes across beautiful tenement houses and charming squares.
