Energy at the campsite - where to get it?
Traveling in a motorhome is associated primarily with a sense of independence. Free choice of visited places or no need to book hotels in advance are just some of the advantages of caravanning that tempt its supporters. A camper or caravan , however, does not provide full self-sufficiency. Especially when it comes to constant access to electricity. And this is what both the vehicle and its users need in large amounts. Fortunately - there are many ways of drawing energy by a motorhome or caravan. Below we discuss the most popular of them.
Inverter power
One of the most frequently used camping accessories is the inverter that manages the energy in the motorhome . It works by converting 12 or 24 volts into 230 volts and intelligently distributing energy. The device first supplies it to devices such as a refrigerator, air conditioning or heating, in order to operate additional equipment on board the vehicle. Some models, including the WAECO CombiPower, not only convert 12 V to 230 V and distribute it to different appliances, but also give back energy reserves that are used to charge the battery itself. The advantage of the inverters is simple installation and small size.
Solar panels
Owners of new and used motorhomes or caravans may also consider using alternative energy sources. By retrofitting the vehicle with a power system in the form of solar panels with a regulator, they gain additional energy and increase their independence from power sources. An additional advantage of using the panels is the reduction of the load on the battery.
It is worth considering that solar panels come in different powers. The most frequently chosen ones are in the range of 40-130 W. Smaller ones are enough to charge a computer or a radio. The larger ones will also be used in the case of a refrigerator or air conditioning system. It is worth that the panels have the power appropriate to the battery capacity.
Electricity generators
In less developed areas, we can have our own power source that will meet the needs of all devices in the motorhome . For this purpose, it is enough to invest in a relatively cheap power generator , which generates electricity during operation, which allows the use of 230 V voltage. It is driven by gasoline, diesel or LPG gas. Models available from the CarGo camping accessories store! They are characterized by high efficiency, ease of use and low fuel consumption.
Energy from the grid
The easiest and cheapest way is to look for campsites that offer guests access to electricity. At some properties, electricity is included in the price, and some have an additional fixed fee for energy. In many fields there are also special independent counters, located at the parking stands. Thanks to them, motorhome owners only pay for the electricity they actually used.
