Its history begins in the 1980s, and the product itself was commissioned by the US Department of Defense. One American corporation was tasked with developing a synthetic goose and duck down replacement. "Artificial down" was supposed to have all the advantages of natural insulation, but without its disadvantages.

Bird's down does not have many competitors in terms of keeping warm. Unfortunately, only when it is dry and clean. It loses its insulating properties when exposed to moisture. It soaks, ceases to be elastic and compacts, which prevents it from maintaining the proper body temperature. Here, PrimaLoft beats him in the races.

The material has been refined many times since the 1980s. Today, it is divided into several types that combine lightness and resistance to moisture.
