The latest information from Hymer Group will especially please customers in Poland. It's official - the ERWIN HYMER group is establishing a strategic cooperation with the Ford brand.
For many years, Fiat with the Ducato model has been the basis for half of all motorhomes on the European market (2020 data). The growing popularity of Ford models will contribute to some extent to changing the landscape of brands in the motorhome world. The framework agreement between the HYMER group and the Ford factory concerns cooperation in the supply of light commercial vehicles of the Transit and Transit Custom series.
Recall - the German giant Erwin Hymer Group is the owner of brands such as Buccaneer, Bürstner, Carado, Crosscamp, Compass, Dethleffs , Elddis, Eriba, Etrusco, Hymer, Laika, LMC, Niesmann + Bischoff, Sunlight and Xplore. The group also includes the networks of Crossrent, McRent and rent easy, as well as a specialist in suspensions - the company Goldschmitt. The Movera accessories wholesaler and the freeontour portal are also part of the concern.
The boom requires diversification
The announced cooperation is certainly related to the current boom on the caravanning market , which has been growing at a cosmic pace since the beginning of the pandemic. The motorhome market is currently one of the fastest growing segments of the automotive industry in Europe. In the background of this strategic cooperation decision are also problems with the supply of semiconductors. Diversification in the range of base cars will certainly contribute to the optimization of the supply chain and continuity of production.
In addition, the press release reads:
"As part of Thor Industries, the world's largest manufacturer of recreational vehicles, the Erwin Hymer group also sees the benefits of the fact that Ford, as a global concern, produces the Transit model range not only in Europe, but also in North America and China . "
Low excise duty = bestseller in Poland
Ford is without a doubt a leading producer of light commercial vehicles on the old continent. In the motorhome segment, for example in Germany, the manufacturer's share is only 7 percent. The situation is completely different in Poland, where several southern European brands took the market by storm thanks to the use of Transit as a base. This is obviously related to the lower fiscal burden (the excise tax related to the engine capacity below 2l is 3.1%, while for Ducato it is 18.6% of the value). The new version of Ford also gathers flattering opinions and is gaining more and more fans.
Hymer had a relationship with Ford before - the first versions of Hymercar motorhomes in the 1980s powered the cars of this brand. Similarly, in 2004 Ford supplied base vehicles for semi-integrated and alcove campers.
We are left to wait for the news of the market giant. The Hymer Group did not participate in the fair in Dusseldorf in 2021 and plans to attend this event every two years. As long as pandemic restrictions do not thwart the plans, we will see new Transit-based models in August this year.
