Hyundai and Ford as motorhomes
Semi-integrated motorhome? It is almost always built on a Fiat Ducato chassis. Van-based motorhome? If not a Ducato, then probably a Volkswagen T5. The British Wellhouse proposes something else - motorhomes based on Ford and Hyundai designs.
Wellhouse is not following the path of least resistance. This is evidenced by the fact that he decided to build motorhomes on the basis of the Hyundai i800 and the Ford Tourneo . I admit that I do not know any other company that would use these cars for camping (not counting those that declare that they will rebuild a vehicle of any brand).
However, something else is important. Even if the company offers a touring body for any car, it is often modular furniture, in which individual elements are like blocks, only slightly modified for a specific car model. In the case of Wellhouse, however, we are talking about a fixed body, and therefore developed specifically for Ford and Hyundai.
Ford from 2014
As a rule, the bodywork of Hyundai and Ford is very similar, except that the Tourneo Terrier is younger. Therefore, it uses more modern solutions.
Probably the most interesting innovation are the seats sliding on rails . As a result, the second row of seats (for 3 people) can be positioned almost freely, while increasing or reducing the loading area. Importantly, even by moving the seats forward and placing an adjustable table between them and the swivel seats for the driver and passenger, you can still open drawers and a 42-liter fridge (with a small freezer).
Kitchen furniture is placed along the side wall - next to the armchairs. The on-board devices include Webasto heating , a fresh water tank (40 liters), and even a tourist toilet, sliding out from under the bottom cabinet . Using such a "potty" may not be comfortable, so it is better to leave it for emergency situations.
The Ford has better quality furniture fronts and blue, decorative LED lighting for the whole set. However, in some respects Hyundai turns out to be better.
Expanded Korean
Perhaps the biggest advantage of the Hyudai in the tourist version is the sliding doors on both sides . On the one hand, we can enter the motorhome, but on the other hand, we gain convenient access to the on-board equipment, "from the back room". It is also convenient to place the filler for the fresh water tank just above the sill and under the passenger seat.
Another pluses can be found in the standard equipment.
The Hyundai i 800 has a larger 47-liter refrigerator and a 42-liter fresh water tank. We even get an electric oven with a grill as standard.
Twin elements
Both Ford and Hyundai can accommodate up to four people . Two can sleep downstairs with the rear row of seats folded out. Additional accommodation places are planned under the raised roof, which can be equipped with thermal insulation for an additional fee.
In both cars you will find 12V and 230V sockets , a control panel for on-board devices and a shower that can be connected via a special output. You can access it by opening the back door. Taking a shower outside will become more comfortable if we retrofit the car with an awning that creates a kind of shower cubicle around the rear part of the vehicle.
Solar panels may be installed in cars.
In Great Britain, the prices of the camping Hyundai are in the range of 37 thousand. pounds up to 40.5 thousand. pounds. There are 4 models. For now, Ford is available in one basic version - it costs 39.5 thousand. pounds.
