On the occasion of the recent motor show in Frankfurt, Opel decided to make a tribute to customers who prefer active leisure. The Vivaro Surf Concept is to be the perfect car for those who have had problems with finding a place for a muddy bicycle or a surfboard.

If the words "Concept" appear in the name of the car, it usually means that we will not see such a car on the streets. But in the case of the described Opel model, it should be different. The manufacturer announces that the Surf Concept will be available as a limited edition of Vivaro for some time. Perhaps Opel wants to probe the market in this way, and therefore check whether it is worth going towards tourist vehicles, as Volkswagen and Mercedes have already done.

This is not a motorhome

Is the car presented in copper-white colors (shiny bronze thanks to the foil) a real motorhome? Absolutely not. It is not a car with a kitchen and bathroom. Instead, the Vivaro has a large luggage space - depending on the version - 3.2 m3 or 4 m3 (in the model with a longer wheelbase).

Passengers who will end up in the second row of seats will have a cavernous storage space under their seats, which will certainly be useful when traveling with five or six people . Access to the second row of seats is facilitated by sliding doors located on both sides of the car.

But people who choose Surf Concept will probably not be guided by such details as access to the rear seats or the appearance of Irmscher rims . Sports amenities will be the most important.

Garage for sports equipment

The rear part, separated from the passenger area by a wall with a window (thanks to which the driver can use the rear-view mirror), can be accessed through the tailgate , which can be opened manually or automatically.

When it is opened, it is not only the cavernous space that attracts attention, but also the blue illumination of the side storage compartments and the headliner. It is also hard not to notice the rails that can facilitate, for example, transporting bicycles.

What about surfboards or snowboards? The manufacturer has provided a place for them on the roof. The boards can be transported in specially designed holders .

Vivaro Surf Concept has been slightly changed compared to the standard model. The springs were shortened in this vehicle, which resulted in a lowering of the car by 70 mm. Its height is 1.9 m , thanks to which the van should easily enter most underground garages. Unfortunately, we do not know if this solution affected the comfort of the suspension. The manufacturer claims that the air suspension of the rear axle effectively damps all shocks.

We know, however, that it is quieter in the car, because it uses a new system of floor mats and mats that reduce noise more effectively. The possibility of equipping the van with auxiliary heating is also a proof of the traveling aspirations of Opel.

Important information for travelers - the permissible total weight of the car is 2.9 tons.

As in a "passenger car"

The Opel Vivaro Surf shown in Frankfurt was equipped with a 1.6 BiTurbo CDTi engine with 140 HP and a maximum torque of 450 Nm. A car with such an engine should consume an average of 6.1 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km and accelerate to a maximum of 180 km / h.

The equipment includes dual-zone air conditioning and the IntelliLink Navi 50 multimedia system with a 7-inch touch screen, voice control, navigation, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules. In the van we can also find, among others dusk sensors, parking assist, rear view camera and speed limiter.

For now, neither the price of the model nor the possible date of launching this version of the Vivaro is known.
