Renault Kadjar 1.6 dCI - the SUV for everything
Not so long ago, functional cars with a station wagon were the most popular among caravanners. Roomy interiors, powerful power units easily coped with towing even heavy trailers. However, times are changing, as can be seen exactly in the automotive world. Today, the formidable station wagons are replaced by universal SUVs . Particularly noteworthy are the compact propositions, equipped with an economical diesel engine and an uncomplicated four-wheel drive .
Market novelty - Renault Kadjar is the second approach of the French manufacturer to the SUV topic. This time, the base for the construction of the compact Kadjar was the Nissan Qashqai - a class hit in sales. The entire body structure, chassis and drive are derived from the Japanese model. The drive unit is also the same - designed by Renault engineers.
Presentation for show
Fortunately, the French took care of the individual character of their vehicle. Its unique presence with typical Renault design accents distinguishes it from the crowd. The LED daytime running lights that surround the entire lampshade deserve praise. The rear lights were made using the same technology. The off-road attitude of the model is emphasized by massive plastic covers on the doors, bumpers and wheel arches . In the better equipped versions, the Kadjar has chrome roof rails , especially useful during vacation trips.
Interior for four
Renault Kadjar, despite the fact that it takes full advantage of the Nissan SUV, has a completely different interior. The plastics used are of clearly better quality, and the ergonomics and advancement of on-board systems also show a higher level. Contrary to the Nissan, digital, highly legible clocks are used . The optional touch screen of the multimedia center has been integrated into the central panel. The high quality of the display translates into smooth operation of the entire set. Undoubtedly, one of the most interesting optional extras is the BOSE sound system , as well as a panoramic glass roof - thanks to it, the youngest passengers will be delighted with every journey. In terms of ride comfort, the Kadjar's interior does not disappoint. There will be plenty of space in the front seats, the rear seat also positively surprises. We can fit three children or two adults on it. Only the luggage compartment capacity is not comparable to the classic station wagon - 440 liters .
Economical diesel and 4x4 drive
Only one engine version will meet the expectations of a caravanning enthusiast. Gasoline and base diesel engines are far too weak. Only the top 1.6 dCI diesel generates 130 HP and 320 Nm . The output goes to the front axle, the rear wheels receive power only in critical situations - reduced traction, then the viscous clutch transmits drive to the rear wheels. The six-speed manual transmission perfectly harmonizes with the drive unit, allows for dynamic driving as well as precise maneuvering on a camping site or in light terrain. When choosing Kadjar on the road, it is not worth exceeding 130 km / h - above this speed in the cabin it gets unpleasantly loud , and fuel consumption is also growing avalanche. During normal driving, Kadjar consumes 5-6 liters of diesel fuel on the road and about 7.5 liters in city traffic. When towing a trailer - weighing a maximum of 1,800 kg - a Renault SUV consumes an average of 8 liters of diesel per 100 km. When deciding on a variant with a manual transmission, we must be careful not to damage the clutch when moving on uphill slopes.
Renault Kadjar, like its brother Nissan, is an interesting proposition for a caravanner. By investing nearly PLN 130,000 for a well-equipped copy, we get much more than we need every day. Economical engine will provide us with reasonable costs for ordinary operation.
