Polish caravanning market in the eyes of specialists

Jakub Faryś, president of the Polish Automotive Industry Association, says: “Taking into account the current situation of the automotive industry, but also of the entire economy, it is not surprising that the registration of motorhomes and caravans has fallen. In the last nine months, only new caravans were registered slightly more than in the comparable period last year. While the decline in registrations of new motorhomes is understandable, because this year, for the first time in recent years, we recorded a decline in the registrations of vans - including chassis due to their lack of availability, the decline in used motorhomes and caravans indicates that after the recent good For years, however, customers have been holding back with purchases. The fact that such vehicles are used for leisure activities and are not the first choice may mean that some customers, fearing an economic slowdown and recession, refrain from making purchases that are not essential. Taking into account also the fact that the motorhome market in Poland is relatively young, and the number of vehicles in comparison to Western countries is small, fluctuations in registrations of several hundred units translate into significant - several or several percent drops in registrations. One can only hope that a form of recreation, which is caravanning, will be gaining popularity in Poland, and despite the worse times that are undoubtedly coming, it will grow, though perhaps not in such a spectacular way "

Sebastian Klauz, vice-president of PGC, publisher of Polski Caravaning, says: “ Maintaining the number of new motorhome registrations at a level similar to last year's seems unrealistic anymore. However, we hope that the registration of 1,900 vehicles will be exceeded. A good prognosis for the caravanning market would be an increase in the number of registrations of new caravans on a year-to-year basis. It is possible and probable, especially if we take into account the activities of our domestic producer, which is "going like a storm" and, additionally, is preparing the premiere of a large family caravan for the fourth quarter. The situation is also better in the field of registration of imported used vehicles.
Here we can still count on getting closer to last year's level.

The causes of problems in the new motorhome segment remain unchanged. The most severe are the constant downtime in chassis factories, in particular at the Fiat manufacturer. They also influence the reshuffle on the market of suppliers of this component. Camper manufacturers looking for alternatives are more and more willing to build vehicles from the VW group as well as 2-liter Mercedes and Fords. The Caravan Salon fair in Düsseldorf has clearly shown this. The actions of companies such as Dethleffs, Knaus, Weinsberg or Hobby leave no doubt as to the thesis that Fiat can be replaced. This trend is also visible in our domestic labels.

Another clearly visible direction is the growing popularity of motorhomes on smaller vehicles such as VW T6 or Ford Transit Custom. Such trends additionally consolidate VW's unthreatened position at the forefront of new vehicle registrations in Poland.

Foreign trade fairs also revealed a very good situation in the sale of high-end vehicles, which confirms the principle that luxury goods are always doing well in bad times. However, here too, the waiting time has increased significantly.

In order not to end on a pessimistic note, I would like to draw attention to the bright side of this difficult situation. Recently, there are many new companies in the industry providing services at various levels. Good service and the growing level of customer service will play an increasingly important role. Will cause
this is a reshuffle, and the weakest companies will certainly not withstand this test. As a result, our home market is becoming more and more professional and mature. "
