Undoubtedly, Italy in its winter version attracts with a wide range of ski resorts. The mountain roads are RV friendly, so just get in your vehicle and start your journey! Today we will focus on the best campsites waiting for guests in the winter season. We cordially invite you to read!
Winter trip to northern Italy
Let's start our adventure with areas that are very popular among skiers and other winter sports enthusiasts. We are talking about Trentino and South Tyrol. In their vicinity there are modern ski resorts and campsites. They are adapted to the needs of each group, including caravanning enthusiasts. No wonder that more and more people decide to come to such a campsite with a motorhome . Italy discovered the tourism potential of the sector a long time ago, as evidenced by the facilities offered to the owners of mobile homes.
Catinaccio Rosengarten
Take the family campsite in Pozza di Fassa, in the heart of the Fassa valley, as an example. This is Camping Catinaccio Rosengarten , from which you can admire the scenery of the peaks of the Dolomites. From the windows of the motorhome you will see, among others, the Marmolada Glacier, the Sella massif, as well as Monzoni and Vajolet. You can choose a campsite and reserve a plot for your vehicle or rent a trailer all year round. Another option are apartments with a kitchenette, living room and bathroom. The resort has a bar and a wellness area, so there are many ways to relax after skiing or sightseeing. Including a Turkish bath.
The campsite is easily accessible but at the same time quite quiet. The center of Pozza di Fassa is just 200 meters away. Nearby is the Marcialonga run, which hosts long-distance cross-country skiing every year on the last Sunday of January. It is the longest and largest Italian marathon.
Vidor Family & Wellness Resort
In the same region, there is also another facility waiting for guests with a motorhome. It's not so much a campsite as a holiday complex with its own water park and lots of other attractions for tourists. We are talking about Vidor Family & Wellness Resort . It is beautiful in itself, and it also provides great views of the Dolomites. It has excellent connections with the nearby ski resorts. For example, you can get out of the motorhome, jump on your skis and go straight from the campsite to conquer Sellaronda. If you feel like it (and you're in shape), you can try to cover all the routes around the Sella massif during your stay. In total, there are almost 40 km of ski slopes.
Caravanning enthusiasts can live on the plot, and the rest - rent a house, room or flat.
Camping Miravalle
Let's stay for a while in the Fassa valley. At a distance of 10 km from Piazzo di Fassa is Campitello di Fassa, while 50 meters from its center is Camping Miravalle . The location is one of the biggest advantages. It delights not only with its landscapes, but also with the proximity of guests to the ski lifts connected to the Giro dei 4 passi and Dolomiti Superski regions. The main trekking routes in the Dolomites can be reached on foot. Choose this campsite and enjoy the wonderful views of Pordoi, Sassolungo and the Marmolada massif.
You can choose from rooms of various standards and spacing. Motorhome owners may receive paid access to a private bathroom. On the other hand, apartment owners have the option of using special services for skiers (including shoes and skis).
International Camping Tunnel
We will now move to the Aosta Valley. It lies in the area bordering Switzerland and France, in the north-west of Italy. It is an ideal place for lovers of high mountains, because those that reach the sky here are among the highest on the entire continent. Camping Tunnel International is a frequently visited facility, which is hardly surprising. It captures the heart with its location alone, in the Valle del Gran San Bernardo valley in the Pennine Alps. It is just 100 meters from the 18-kilometre cross-country ski trail through pine forests.
Étroubles, the town where the campsite is located, is the informal capital of the Great St. Bernard Valley. It is associated with a sea of flowers, although of course in winter you will not recognize it from this side. However, it is worth visiting at any time, even when it is covered with snow.
Campervan to South Tyrol
On our tourist map, we can now see a very interesting region of northern Italy - Pustertal. The Puster Valley is one of the largest longitudinal valleys in the Alps. We have selected two campsites from this area which we now want to offer you. Both are located in Dobiacco (Toblach) and have numerous facilities for tourists. The first is Camping Olympia , run by the Klettenhammer family since the 1950s. You can stay on a plot, rent a room or a bungalow. The last option is not just any hut with basic equipment, but glamping! The houses resemble an idyllic mini-village, and each of them is made of ecological materials (regional wood). Its interior also uses ecological solutions - these are, for example, furniture or special mattresses.
You can stay on one of the plots if you have your own motorhome. If you don't have one, both on this and on any other you can come rented. We recommend our search engine to all interested in renting motorhomes. You will certainly choose a vehicle that will be perfect for your journey to the Italian winter resort.
Toblacher See campsite
The second place is a perfect campsite for anyone who dreams of sleeping in the bosom of nature. The accommodation includes several Skyview cottages for adults. They have huge glazing that gives a panoramic view of the greenery of the larch forest and Lake Dobiacco. If you love nature, are looking for a secluded place to recharge your batteries and get away from the everyday hustle and bustle, you will love it here. Camping Toblacher See is an offer not only for lovers of ecology, but also for romantics. Besides, it's a facility for people ... independent, however strange it sounds. On the resort's website you can read that it does not organize any activities, which may surprise some. According to the owners, the area offers so many attractions that you really don't need to encourage anyone to do them. You create your own action plan.
At any time of the year, you can hike the trails for hours, and in winter you can use the cross-country skiing trail (in front of the campsite) or skiing. Winter sports enthusiasts can count on many amenities.
Camping Antholz
A little west of Dobiacco you will find another interesting object. It is located in the Anterselva valley and bears the same name. It is not large, but it guarantees an environment of untouched nature and peace. You can park your motorhome on a gravel lot, then spend their days skiing. The Plan de Corones ski area is approximately 25 km from Camping Anterselva . In addition to the campsite, guests have special sleeping barrels at their disposal. If you want an unusual accommodation, perhaps this is something just for you
What awaits winter vacationers here? You can admire the area from a height, for example, go to Passo di Stalle and see Lake Anterselva from there. A stone's throw from the campsite you have a cross-country ski trail. If you prefer to avoid the crowds, instead of the slopes of Plan de Corones, we recommend a solo trip on snowshoes or skiing, but somewhere closer. It is worth adding that you can get to many attractive points free of charge from the campsite.
Sägemühle camping residence
The last proposal we have prepared for you is a resort in Prato allo Stelvio, an Italian town where less than 3% of the inhabitants speak Italian. Camping Residence Sägemühle , or Kemping Rezydencja Tartak in Polish, is run by the Wunderer family. It invites you to pitches for motorhomes, caravans and wooden bungalows. We assure you that the landscapes of the Vinschgau Valley and the Stelvio National Park will win your heart.
Facilities for guests include a free ski bus to the ski area of Trafoi and Sulden am Ortler, direct access to hiking and biking trails, restaurant, café and pizzeria (with delivery option). Of course, this is only a fraction of the attractions of the campsite.
We have briefly presented eight recommended places for a winter camper trip. If you would like to go to Italy for skiing, relaxing in the aquapark or relaxing by the lake, it's easy! Don't have a year-round car? We remind you about our search engine where you can find a motorhome for sale or a motorhome for rent . Then plan a route of places worth seeing and going on a winter holiday!
