  3. Visit the "Hungarian sea" and enjoy the beautiful view
  4. Beautiful Tapolca Cave and a boat ride through it

When going to Slovenia, remember to visit Budapest!

The capital of Hungary is full of attractions for tourists. Depending on the time you have, there are many places worth stopping at.

In the Pest district you have the opportunity to visit:

  • Heroes' Square - is the most important square in the city with the Millennium Monument and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Art are nearby.
  • Andrássy Avenue - one of the most beautiful streets in Europe. It is about 2.5 kilometers long and is lined with beautiful tenement houses.
  • St. Basilica Stefan - a unique place because it houses one of Hungary's treasures. Additionally, it is the largest church in the country and the third largest building in Hungary.

Among additional attractions, you can take a cruise on the Danube and see Margaret Island, which is the green lungs of Budapest .

There's a reason I only gave one district. This way you can plan a really short trip and visit Budapest. You will probably find more places that will interest you there.

There are a few more places worth visiting in Budapest, including:

  • Gellért Mountain - located in the Buda part and is 235 meters high. This is a sufficient height to admire the panorama of the Danube.
  • Royal Castle - dates back to the 13th century. Accessible to every visitor, you can see the courtyards, defensive walls, terraces and the center of the castle.
  • Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion - one of the most beautiful places in the city. It looks amazing and it was here that the rulers of Hungary were crowned.
  • Szecheny Bridge - the first permanent bridge connecting two parts of Budapest.
  • Parliament Building - one of the largest parliaments in the world. Regardless of the time of day, it looks beautiful, and the interior and exterior parts delight with the view.

Hungarian Esztergom (Esztergom) is like Gniezno for Poles

The city of Esztergom is located over an hour away from Budapest. A unique place for Hungarians, because in 1000 it was Stephen I who was baptized. The town has a really beautiful history.

Thus, you will find a lot of attractions worth seeing. First of all, the Basilica in Esztergom, the Danube National Park and the view point from the Prédikálószék mountain deserve special mention.

Visit the "Hungarian sea" and enjoy the beautiful view

The name of the "Hungarian sea" itself is Balaton. This time it is only almost 1.5 hour drive from the capital. The place deserves your time because the lake is the largest in Hungary.

The lake has a distinctive shade, this one is emerald. The color is due to the shallow depth of the lake, which ranges from 2 to 4.5 meters. One place on the lake is as much as 12.5 meters high, the so-called Tihan Well.

The perfect place to rest while traveling. Grassy beaches dominate, and the water (due to the shallowness of the lake) is usually warm. You can sail on the lake, and for those who like cycling, there is a 180 km long path!

The lake is surrounded by many resorts, pubs and restaurants. This is a very good place to stop on your journey!

Beautiful Tapolca Cave and a boat ride through it

A place worth visiting if you are near Lake Balaton . You can visit the caves in a completely unusual way on a boat. It is located 15-20 meters below the surface of the city and was discovered in 1912.

Unfortunately, it is about 5 kilometers long, of which 3 kilometers are completely underwater. An interesting fact is that the water temperature is 20°C all year round. There is an exhibition for visitors, but the guide itself is in Hungarian with English subtitles.

The next part is a boat and swimming! For those interested, swimming 300 meters takes 20 to 30 minutes. The city itself also has its charm and deserves your attention.

Border crossings between Hungary and Slovenia

After visiting Hungary, it is worth going to one of the border crossings with Slovenia. The Slovenia-Hungary border is over 100 kilometers long.

There are four main road crossings, they include:

  • Hodoš
  • Dolga Vas
  • Pince
  • Čepinci

When traveling, check the opening hours of individual crossings, some are open at specific times.
