Feel the peace of Rome

How to start a story about Rome when we are talking about a city with such a long history, with so many monuments, with so many beautiful, noteworthy places? It would be a story for a long winter evening with a snowstorm outside the window, probably extended into the night, and probably until the morning. Filmed, it would have to be a series, because it is impossible to show all the attractions of the Eternal City, not to omit something important, although perhaps not as clearly in the foreground as, for example, the Colosseum, St. Peter and the Pantheon.

Galloping through Rome

A mistake often made by tourists is to try hard to see as much as possible in the shortest possible time. Their efforts are understandable, considering how many attractions this city offers, but often trips around Rome become a memory of rushing from monument to monument, standing in long lines to buy tickets to some famous object, squeezing through the crowd of other feverish visitors. Meanwhile, the main center of Lazio can be explored slowly, it does not necessarily have to show us everything at once. We can try to feel its atmosphere, deviating from the main routes into narrow streets, reaching squares hidden somewhere in the back or inner yards behind the gates, getting lost again and again in the labyrinth of tenement houses. Many people will be surprised by courtyards with fountains, marble sculptures and beautiful exotic gardens, hidden from the sight of tourists chasing the main streets. They won't find it in guidebooks, they won't capture it in pictures. They will pass by, losing so much. This also applies to visiting the Eternal City in the evening, when a number of monuments are spectacularly illuminated, and many smaller and larger squares are teeming with nightlife. Wandering around the squares in the center of the capital, we meet mimes, street singers and clowns every step of the way. A great way to soak up the atmosphere of this part of Italy is camping in Lazio - you can find our recommendation later in the article.

The flavors and scents of Italy

An interesting place in Rome is the fair, especially located in the central point of Campo di Fiori. You can feel like one of the "natives", see the life of the inhabitants up close, and buy fresh local products. What can we find at the stalls? Among other things, dozens of original spice mixes (including spaghetti), truffles and all kinds of exotic fruits and vegetables, as well as several varieties of dried tomatoes. Someone who stayed in a hotel for the duration of their stay in Rome will probably come across one of these markets sooner or later, driven by the desire to eat something tasty - and in more than trace amounts. It is worth saying a few words about the ways of exploring the city, with particular emphasis on the economic option. Many monuments can be seen free of charge (apart from the Pantheon or the New Grottoes in the basement of St. Peter's Basilica, also the ruins of the Circus Maximus, the Trevi Fountain or the Museo delle Maura), and those where you need to buy an admission ticket can be visited with discounts after obtaining a city card Roma Pass . Thanks to it, we can enter for free, e.g. to the Borghese Gallery, Villa Maxentius or the Pietro Canonica Museum. In addition, the card (you can buy a Roma Pass for 2 or 3 days) provides free use of public transport - excluding Trenitalia rail and Atral / Cotral bus transport.

Camping in Rome

A great proposition for a family with children looking for a place to stay as close to the attractions of Rome as possible is Camping Village Fabulous . Located in close proximity to the center of the capital, it offers space in a beautifully forested area (approx. 30 ha). Thanks to the efficient public transport system, it is easy to reach famous points from here, in addition, you can take part in trips to Rome, Naples or Pompeii. Its premises include, among others: shop, mini-market, pizzeria and bar, as well as swimming pools, mini-golf and beach volleyball. All pitches are shaded and have electricity. It is a great place to relax - so close to Rome's attractions, and at the same time so peaceful, in the shade of pine trees. Camping invites you for a peaceful holiday in the Eternal City, after which you will want to come back here to continue your unhurried wandering around the squares and courtyards.

Brescia - the lioness of Italy
Located at the foot of Monte Maddalena, the second largest city in Lombardy (after Milan) is a true pearl of the region. Brescia, called the "lioness of Italy", is a rapidly developing economic center, where at the same time great importance is attached to the cultivation of tradition and the history of the region, so that it does not fall into oblivion. It is a city of contrasts, winding streets and a huge number of atmospheric places, perfect for tourists visiting Italy. Today, Brescia is a dynamically developing economic center with history in the background. It may come as a surprise that the city is not too crowded with tourists - even in high season. On the other hand, it makes it a great place for anyone who would like to get to know all the best in this country during their holidays in Italy , but without the disturbing crowds. You can start your tour from the Old Town, surrounded by the remains of city fortifications from the reign of the Venetian Republic. There are countless winding streets waiting for us there, and at every turn there is a cozy cafe where you can taste Pirlo, a combination of white wine, campari and mineral water. There are many squares in this part of the city, but one of them stands out - Piazza della Loggia . It is home to the town hall, a palace with a characteristic roof, and a building that is the center of the city's political, artistic and cultural life. Above the north-eastern part of the city, on a hill overlooking a beautiful view, is Castello . The squat walls and the multitude of fortifications of the castle testify to its strategic importance for the area. At the end of the 19th century, it was taken over by the city and now serves as a museum. On the outskirts of Brescia is the Mille Miglia , a museum dedicated to the famous car rally that starts and ends in the city and runs through the roads of northern Italy (the stop halfway through the race is Rome). The history of the rally dates back to 1927. The Mille Miglia takes place every year and is unique for two reasons - vehicles manufactured before 1957 start in it, and the route is only on public roads.
