Baden-Württemberg belongs to one of the sixteen federal states of Germany. There are 16,500 family-owned vineyards in this region, of which 14,980 belong to wine cooperatives.

In the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, winemakers are called Weingärtner, which means "wine gardener". This is called hobby winemakers who take their job very seriously. The 500 km long Württemberg Wine Route runs through the region from Weikersheim, near Bad Mergentheim, to Metzingen, east of Tübingen.

Baden-Württemberg has a very extensive calendar of wine-related events . Heilbronner Weindorf is one of the most famous and largest wine festivals. This event takes place in early September and is an opportunity to taste a huge variety of Württemberg wines, from Trollinger and Riesling to Rivaner and Kerner.

Germany is famous for its love of heavy, fatty and caloric meals. There are over 60 kg of meat per one inhabitant per year. Pork is the most popular , and the favorite is Schweinebraten, or roast with sauce . Potatoes, sauerkraut and sausage are an important element of German cuisine.
