Baden-Württemberg belongs to one of the sixteen federal states of Germany. It is a sunny region, dominated by medieval castles and the untouched, unspoiled nature of the Black Forest and Lake Constance. In this natural landscape, the best red grapes ripen to produce one of the tastiest German wines. The capital of this beautiful state is Stuttgart.
Baden-Württemberg is famous e.g. thanks to the cuckoo clock, Boss suits and Black Forest ham . However, the land is also known for its vast vineyards and excellent grape varieties , the most popular of which has been the Trollinger for many years. Baden-Württemberg ranks fourth among Germany's largest wine regions and is also the only one that produces more red than white wine.
Food served with wine
The grapevines in the Baden-Württemberg region are mainly grown in the valleys of the Neckar River , as well as in its tributaries. Many vineyards are located right on Lake Constance. There are ideal conditions for viticulture in these places - regular water flow, a mild climate and areas sheltered by the mountains of the Black Forest. There are 16,500 family-owned vineyards in this region, of which 14,980 belong to wine cooperatives.
In the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, winemakers are called Weingärtner, which means "wine gardener". This is called hobby winemakers who take their job very seriously. The 500 km long Württemberg Wine Route runs through the region from Weikersheim, near Bad Mergentheim, to Metzingen, east of Tübingen.
Baden-Württemberg has a very extensive calendar of wine-related events . Heilbronner Weindorf is one of the most famous and largest wine festivals. This event takes place in early September and is an opportunity to taste a huge variety of Württemberg wines, from Trollinger and Riesling to Rivaner and Kerner.
Germany is famous for its love of heavy, fatty and caloric meals. There are over 60 kg of meat per one inhabitant per year. Pork is the most popular , and the favorite is Schweinebraten, or roast with sauce . Potatoes, sauerkraut and sausage are an important element of German cuisine. Over 1,500 of its species are produced throughout the country. The most popular fast food is kajzer with sausage or sausage.
Besides, each region has its own specialty. In the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, game and regional cold cuts are predominant. In dinner dishes, they are often combined with home-made pasta and potato rösti. Spätzle (a type of flour noodles) served in various versions with the addition of regional red wine is also popular. The most popular dessert is the German apple and cinnamon strudel , with rhubarb in jelly or with cornflower ice cream.

An example is the medieval town of Wildberg , situated in the valley of the Nagold River, which flows through the Black Forest. This place was documented for the first time in 1237, when it came under the rule of the Counts of Hohenberg. In the town you can see the ruins of the castle , the remains of the city walls, the historic church from 1464, the town hall built in 1480 and the Reuthin Monastery, where the Municipal Museum of Local History is located.
