Maremma wine routes
Maremma wines are considered by experts to be among the best in the world. Thanks to the ideal climate, the vines grow quickly, and the soil of Maremma gives them a unique, unique aroma and taste. Take one of the three wine routes there ( strada del vino ) and experience the benefits of Maremma wines for yourself.
In recent years, the Maremma has grown into a region that is the pride of Italy's winemaking industry . Producers of this noble drink are particularly fond of the strip between Grosseto and Livorno , where new vineyards are constantly being created, the owners of which are eager to use innovative technologies to support the production and aging of wine.
While olive groves used to be dominant there, now more and more often you can see ripening grapes in the fields. The region has prepared three extraordinary wine routes for wine lovers. They allow you to visit unusual towns, get to know the flavors of Maremma, but above all, they allow you to visit the vineyards and taste unusual local wines.
Strada del Vino Montecucco
First, we set off on the Strada del Vino Montecucco trail, walking from Arcidosso, through Castell'Azzara, Castel del Piano, Cinigiano, Civitella Paganico, Campagnatico, Roccalbegna, Santa Fiora and Seggiano, all the way to Semproniano.
It is a very diverse landscape full of unusual smells, flavors and monuments. Here, strong aromas are combined with delicate ones, and the best grapevines ripen against the backdrop of ancient buildings. There, the wine-growing traditions are very long. In the Montecucco area, we can enjoy the taste of the famous Brunello di Montalcino . We also find there excellent Seggiano olive oil , wonderful honeys, truffles, mushrooms and saffron. The plates are dominated by salami, wild boar sausage and roccalbegna biscuits .
The Strada del Vino Montecucco trail is available in three variants. The first one will go from the slopes of Monte to the village of Santa Fiora , admiring the Monte Labbro reserve and the Monte Amiata animal park along the way. The second route will take us from the mountains straight to the Montecucco vineyards and further to Castel del Piano and Arcidosso, where we will see the amazing Montenero vineyards. In the third variant of the trail, we can go from Paganico to Sasso d'Ombrone and Poggi del Sasso - one of the most important wine areas there. We can visit the Vicarello and Collemassari castles there.
Strada di Maremma Colli
The Strada di Maremma Colli route will allow us to visit the south-eastern part of the Grosseto province . We set off from Capalbio, then visiting places such as Orbetello, the island of Giglio, Magliano, Grosseto, Monte Argentario, Campagnatico, Roccalbegna, Semproniano, Scansano, Manciano, Pitigliano and Sorano. We can admire a diverse landscape there: from the sea to the mountains and the slopes of Monte Amiata .
The rich and turbulent history is combined with the calm, slightly lazy atmosphere that can be felt in the local small towns. Visiting the vineyards of this route is an opportunity to discover the flavors of Ansonica Costa dell'Argentario, Bianco di Pitigliano , Capalbio, Morellino di Scansano, Parrina, Sovana and Maremma Toscana Bianco e Rosso . By the way, we can visit the Vine and Wine Museum and the Archaeological Museum in Scansano.
Strada del vino Monteregio
The last of the official tours is the Strada del vino Monteregio - another opportunity to get to know Tuscan cuisine, its great dishes, but also local products. We find there mainly Maremma tortelli, acquacotta, hare and wild boar pappardelle , seasoned with olives and stewed snails. We will taste wonderful cheeses, pork sausages, Tuscan ham, and delicious gingerbread and almond cookies await us for dessert.
Of course, all these dishes should be washed down with one of the wonderful wines there. It's worth trying Monteregio Rosso , which is dominated by the Sangiovese grape variety. Monteregio Blanco made from Trebbiano and Vermentino grapes is also excellent.
The Strada del vino Monteregio route is available in three variants. The first includes the municipalities of Monterotondo Marittimo and Follonica of Massa Marittima , where Lake Accesa, Montioni Park and medieval castles - Lecceta and Cugnano are worth seeing. The second option is mainly the towns of Roccastrada and Montemassi , and the third is the area of Castiglione della Pescaia .
Camping Village Rocchette - relaxation after your trip
When we are in Castiglione della Pescaia, it is worth staying there longer and rest after an exhausting trip through the Maremma vineyards. A few kilometers from Castiglione della Pescaia you will find the charming and comfortable Camping Village Rocchette , situated in a pine forest.
The resort is located near the beach , offers plenty of attractions and comfortable and fully equipped holiday homes (kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom, air conditioning, patio). There you can also use plots with the necessary sanitary and electricity connections.
Camping Village Rocchette is a place friendly to families with children . There are special entertainment for kids organized by animators. There is also a paddling pool and playground adapted to the needs of the youngest. Youth and adults can practice water sports , as well as enjoy the sports field or ride horses.
The campground also has a gourmet restaurant overlooking the pool, serving Tuscan dishes made of simple ingredients but interestingly combined, all made by yourself. The restaurant's signature dish is gragnano pasta tegamata . Of course, Maremma wines are served with the dishes. There is also a bar serving snacks and cooling drinks.
Italy, Croatia, Spain ... are the countries I would like to come back to every summer. I like to discover new places, whether it is a bustling capital city or a quiet town on a mountain slope.
