Levanto - where the waves hit the hardest

Levanto is an attractive town located in the Italian province of La Spezia. Thanks to its small size, it provides both residents and visiting tourists with the opportunity to relax peacefully. Not everyone knows that the town is famous for the strongest waves in Italy, which means that sometimes it is not so quiet here.

Holidays on the Ligurian coast

Levanto is located approximately 60 km from Genoa, while the provincial capital, La Spezia, is approximately 20 km away. It has a nice, extensive bay, partially protected on the south side. Ironically, the tongue of land, which serves as a shield against sea wind attacks, is also the cause of strong waves, sometimes 3-4 meters high. They form mainly in the central part of the bay's waters - its heart. Angry waves are a tasty morsel for daredevils who come here to face the elements and, like a wild horse, try to tame one of them using a surfboard or a sail. When the strongest waves are formed, surfers come to Levanto from all over Europe. Many people planning to spend an active camping holiday in Italy consider this part of the Ligurian coast also because the water here is warm and very clean. We cannot forget about the advantages on land. Levanto boasts a long, sandy beach and lots of greenery - the surrounding areas are densely covered with olive and pine trees.

Trip to Levanto

The town attracts the attention of vacationers not only because of the beauty of the surrounding nature. Walking through the streets, you will see many beautiful, eye-catching villas - the historic center is particularly interesting. Considering its size, Levanto has a lot of shops and restaurants with interesting menus. There are also many pubs there, such as: the classic English pub Gambrinus, unfortunately often crowded (due to its location in the heart of the city), Mad Max with interesting graffiti on the walls or Vineria, where you can drink a glass of delicious wine at a table in a beautiful garden.

During your stay, it is worth taking the opportunity to explore the attractions of nearby resorts. South of Levanto, hidden behind a headland, lies Monterosso al Mare , distinguished from its neighbors by its developed tourist infrastructure and a large sandy beach. It is located in the very center of the resort, inviting vacationers to swim in the crystal clear water. The downside is that most of it is paid. Going in the other direction, i.e. north-west of Levanto, we will reach Bonassola , a quiet town with a long sand and pebble beach. In August, it is noisy and crowded here (large numbers of Italian families visit the town), but in the remaining months it is a nice place to relax. Visiting Liguria , especially this part of the region, also means meeting the past - and an intimate meeting at that. There are a dozen or so tiny villages dating back to the Middle Ages waiting to be discovered. A real treat for history lovers!

Camping in Levanto

When looking for accommodation on the Ligurian Riviera , we can easily choose the best offer because there are so many possibilities. Supporters of living in harmony with nature, ecologically, will be delighted when they discover Camping Acquadolce . It is located in close proximity to the Mesco headland, only 200 meters from the sea. For the owners of the facility, ecology is extremely important - they place great emphasis on ensuring that their impact on the environment is as small as possible. Examples include sanitary facilities that use only 100% natural soap and the fact that the campsite uses alternative energy sources. It is open all year round, inviting guests to relax close to the national park and reserve. It is especially liked by families with children. It is an enclave of peace and quiet, a wonderful, green place where it is easy to understand (and absorb) the message that the land is not a gift from our parents, but ours - for our children.
