Magic time in Den Bosch
Lovers of sweets will surely leave Den Bosch with a solid supply of chocolate balls. The city of Hieronymus Bosch will delight with its great cuisine, the charm of well-kept houses and the most beautiful church in the Netherlands.
Den Bosch ('s-Hertogenbosch) is a typical Dutch city on the canals. In the past, it was an island-fortress with thick walls and surrounded by polders. Over time, the floodplains have turned into popular recreational areas where residents walk their dogs, ride their bikes, camp on blankets or go jogging. The polders are clearly visible from the fort located in the southern part of the city.
Hieronymus Bosch city
On the list of must-see places for every self-respecting lover of culture is the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center , built in honor of the most famous inhabitant - the creator of the triptych "The Garden of Earthly Delights", "The Temptation of Saint Anthony", "The Seven Deadly Sins" and many other works that during the painter's lifetime, they were not understood by his contemporaries. The statue of Hieronymus Bosch, one of the most famous Dutch primitivists, stands today in the city center.
While walking around the triangular market square, it is worth taking a moment to look at the 13th-century de Moriaan, the oldest brick house in the Netherlands. Also of interest is the town hall, four centuries older than that, built in the style of Dutch classicism.
One of the pearls of 's-Hertogenbosch' sacred architecture is the Cathedral of St. Jana (Gothic St. John's Cathedral), considered to be the most beautiful church in the whole of the Netherlands. It was built at the beginning of the 13th century in the Brabant Gothic style. The city's pride is also a large number of museums - including the Carnival Museum and the Stedelijk Museum.
Sweet 's-Hertogenbosch
Den Bosch also has a second face - it is a frequent destination for shopping enthusiasts. There are an exceptionally large number of pubs, cafes and restaurants. What should we absolutely try while in the city? Certainly a confectionery, with special attention to the pride of 's-Hertogenbosch. I am talking about the so-called Bossche Bol (chocoladebol), chocolate balls that are a delicious addition to coffee.
In the city, however, we will find not only monuments or cultural facilities. The eyes of aesthetes will be delighted with a walk along the canal with very well-kept houses made of brick or a combination of brick and wood. It is a real pleasure to look at the buildings with colorful shutters and large windows, with extremely clean exits. At every step you can see that the residents attach great importance to order.
