Slow tourism on the shores of Lake Geneva

Slow tourism on the shores of Lake Geneva – main image

The French department of Savoie, located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, abounds in intimate, hermetic villages, often giving the impression that time flows slower in them and the 21st century has not yet reached them. An enthusiast of glass, steel and metal architecture, who loves skyscrapers, shopping centers and loud clubs, and spending his holidays intensively, "ticking off" the main attractions of the area, is unlikely to be here. When, on the other hand, the climate of the French province will meet the supporter of the so-called slow tourism, will come back here more than one and not twice. This is especially true of the southern shores of Lake Geneva, with the majestic peaks of the Savoy Alps decorating the background.

Leisure in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region

The campground provides visitors with access to the magnificent Plage d'Excenevex , which stands out among the other beaches that surround the lake with its golden, powdery sand. The gentle descent to the water attracts families with children. Children can safely splash in the shallows, and parents can relax blissfully on the shore with a view of the Alps.

The location on the shores of Lake Geneva is one of La Pinède's most important assets. The lake is a huge tourist attraction, which is proudly boasted by two countries - France and Switzerland. The largest reservoir in the Alps and Western Europe is characterized by an exceptionally intense blue surface, reminiscent of the waters of Mediterranean resorts. The beauty of the lake has been enchanting for centuries. Adam Mickiewicz, who dedicated Lausanne lyric poetry to it. It is impossible to be surprised by the bard, and even less so by tourists who, tempted by the landscapes of Lake Geneva, decide to spend a holiday in France instead of choosing a southern destination.

Slow tourism in a medieval village

In the immediate vicinity of the campsite is Yvoire , a charming village with characteristic medieval architecture. It has touched many hearts with its small port and delighted with the Garden of Five Senses (Le Labyrinthe - Jardin des Cinq Sens), growing in the center. When you look at Yvoire from a bird's-eye view, you will see gray walls covered with joyful bloom, the beating green heart of Cinq Sens and the blue of the lake in the background. While admiring this postcard scenery, you can sigh and think: "What problems may people who live in such a wonderful place have?" Yvoire is called one of the most beautiful French villages for a reason.

Places to visit
Strongly Canadian Dieppe
In the recent past, Dieppe had the role of the scene on which the failed Operation Jubilee took place. The Allied test landing was a fiasco, the attackers suffered heavy losses and were forced to flee. Traces of WWII events still lie on the coast, but the city does not live only in the past. Dieppe continues the tradition of the fishing town, and besides, it offers numerous attractions for tourists. Each year they attract not only Parisians, but also holidaymakers from other countries. Dieppe is a charming city located practically on the cliffs above the English Channel. Due to the fact that it is the seaside resort closest to Paris, it is very popular among the inhabitants of the French capital. From one city to the other, it takes about 2.5 hours by car, and there are regular trains between them. Dieppe is also a port (one of the busiest in Normandy), from which the ferry leaves for Newhaven. Course prices start at £ 78 per car and 2 adults (one way). With the ferry you can easily get to Brittany, as well as central and western France. And what will we visit in Dieppe itself? The city's many attractions attract tourists spending their holidays in Normandy . They are tempted by the beach surrounded by cliffs, which has already delighted 19th-century painters, including Gauguin and Monet. The local cuisine based on fish and seafood is also a big lure. Gourmets should definitely visit Dieppe in November when the Herring Festival takes place. In addition to food for the body, the resort offers food for the spirit. In the heart of Dieppe is the Villa Perrotte, an art gallery, and the 15th-century fortress, Château de Dieppe, towers over the city. Today it is a museum with an ivory collection, paintings by painters such as Renoir and Boudin, and sculptures by local fishermen. While visiting Dieppe , we will repeatedly see evidence of the durability and strength of the city's relationship with Canada. Maple leaf flags are noticeable at every step, and in Canada's Square you can see a monument commemorating the moment of Canada's colonization by settlers from France.
