The resorts at Lake Balaton attract tourists not only with their location. The vicinity of one of the largest lakes in Central Europe is also famous for its SPA centers and the healing properties of the local thermal waters.

Hungarian spas enjoy well-deserved fame and the interest of tourists from all over Europe. They hold particular esteem for the resorts in the Balaton area, including Hévíz, located approx. 10 km north of the lake. Thanks to the surrounding hills, it has a unique microclimate, tempting visitors from different countries.

Hévíz spa

The village is located near Hévíz , the largest natural thermal lake in Europe. There are numerous hotels, amusement parks and SPA facilities around the reservoir. Its bottom is covered with a thick layer of peat, and the water contains a large admixture of sulfur. Combined with high temperatures (33-34 ° C in summer and 26-28 ° C in winter), the whole is a healing mixture that is used by thousands of people.

Bathing in the waters of the lake is recommended for those suffering from diseases of the locomotor organs, female diseases, pain in the joints, thyroid gland and gastrointestinal tract. People who struggle with gall bladder ailments, muscle pains and metabolic disorders come here for therapy. On the other hand, bathing in the thermal waters of Hévíz is not recommended for those suffering from heart disease and tuberculosis, as well as for those suffering from malignant neoplasms.

Thanks to the temperature of the water, you can take a bath for 12 months a year. A treatment complex has been built at the lake, offering a wide range of treatments available from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm. The admission ticket costs 2 400 HUF (for 3 hours). You can also buy a day pass - it costs 3 700 HUF.

The pearl of Balaton - Keszthely

While in this region, it is impossible to miss Keszthely, the largest city of Balaton. It is situated in the northwest of the lake, surrounded by plains to the south and forests and hills to the north. Heading south of the city, we come across the so-called Little Balaton (Kis-Balaton), which is part of the Zala river delta. It is a nature reserve and a habitat for waterfowl.

Thanks to direct bus connections, running several times a day, it is easy to reach Budapest from Keszthely . It is just as easy to get to Vienna, which both motorized tourists and those using public transport eagerly do.

The resort is an excellent starting point to the northern wine regions of Lake Balaton . Connoisseurs of white wine should not miss this opportunity to taste a drink made from local cultivars.

Camping in Hungary

A few kilometers from Keszthely, in Gyenesdiás, there is a Wellness Park Camping . It is waiting for guests in the period from 01/03 to 31/10. Especially lovers of exploring the area by bike will be happy to stay there - the facility is located right on the route to Lake Balaton. It offers, among others places in rooms and grassy lots with access to electricity. In the off-season, 2 people with their own motorhome will spend the night here for 13 euros, while in the high season the cost of stay increases to 16 euros / day. The price includes hot and cold water, access to the outdoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna, as well as ping-pong table and tennis court.

Guests of the restaurant located within the campsite can use the free Wi-Fi. Vacationers can spend time playing basketball, volleyball and devote themselves to the so-called petance (Pétanque), a traditional French party game of throwing bullets to a "pig".

Héviz is not only the largest natural thermal lake in Europe. It is also the only place in our continent where beautiful red Indian water lilies grow in the open air. If only for the sake of their view, it is worth coming here.
