It was supposed to be a perfect city, a city of equal people. The idea is beautiful, but translating it into real life turned out to be not so easy. We invite you for a trip to Tabor!

Tabor is the second largest center in southern Bohemia. In the 15th century it was the center of the Hussite revolution. They named it after the biblical mountain - previously it was called another one, Hradiste.

Stacks in Klokoty

The Hussite Museum is located in the premises of the former town hall. We will learn more about the historical (and religious) turmoil that plagued the city. Also noteworthy are the underground corridors open to tourists and the Church of the Transfiguration with a diamond vault in the presbytery.

The main attraction of Tabor is Klokoty , a pilgrimage site, once an independent commune, today part of the city. In the past, they were the center of the Adamites, a movement whose members preached free love and community of goods, imitated Adam's nakedness, treating it as a symbol of human purity until the moment of committing original sin. By rejecting the Hussite doctrines, the sect incurred their wrath - to such an extent that in 1421 its last members were murdered. On Jan Žižka's order, pyres were burned in Klokoty and the Adamites from Tabor were killed.

It's hard to believe that a city with such a bloody history was founded in the name of love and equality. They were named after the Israeli mountain Thabor. The founders, who supported the Hussite reform movement, built it for a society that was to live based on the Decalogue, rejecting human rights. In the first years, residents gave their property to be divided among those in need. So why did Tabor catch fire? We will probably never know the answer to this question.

September Middle Ages

Tabor is not the only biblical name that came to Central Europe. The second one is Jordan , and it is the oldest reservoir in this part of the continent. Initially, it was intended to serve the city as a source of drinking water, then it became a fish pond, and finally - a recreational point. It is 12.5 meters at its deepest, and the largest fish caught there was a 28-kilogram carp (in 1890).

It is worth coming to the city in September, when parades and shows take place. Tourists have the opportunity to go back in time to the Middle Ages, take part in a fair and watch knights' tournaments. We can also feel the atmosphere of the "Middle Ages" in the ruins and tower of Kotnov Castle . In turn, from the tower standing near the town hall of the temple we will see a wonderful panorama of the historic part of Tabor.

Camping in Tabor

In the south of the city there is the year-round Kemp Harrachovka , ideal for families with children. It offers accommodation in tents and the services of the Las Harrachovka restaurant. It is liked by both "ordinary" tourists and sailors - both are tempted by the option of eating lunch at a table overlooking the Lužnice River. Every Sunday in summer, concerts of folk bands take place on the terrace. Accommodation for an adult costs CZK 40, for a child aged 6-15 - CZK 35, and for a camper - CZK 70.

Approx. 5 km east of the city there is Hotel – Camp – Książęcy pond, open from 01/05 to 10:30. It invites families with children and enthusiasts of active recreation. It has, among others, a volleyball court, a football pitch and a tennis court, as well as a sports equipment rental. Anglers, mushroom pickers and lovers of long walks will be happy with their stay there. The facility offers accommodation in a hotel, cottages, tents and caravans. You can reach the center by line no. 30.

Tabor is not only a place that remembers the dark side of Czech history - it is also a good point for further travels. In about 20 minutes we will reach the Chynowska Cave, famous for its colorful walls. And this is just one of the many attractions of the region.
