The land of crystal water

The land of eternal ice, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier (3029 m), is the perfect place for anyone who wants to enjoy the view of over thirty alpine peaks. From autumn to summer, it is a skier's paradise. Over 130 kilometers of ski slopes with all levels of difficulty, more than 50 lifts make this place a Mecca for winter sports fans. The crystal clear waters of Lake Zeller See, one of the cleanest in Europe, offer not only the possibility of swimming, but also a whole range of water sports - from canoeing to surfing. Ice and water are just a fraction of what Zell am See-Kaprun has to offer, arguably Austria's most diverse natural region.

Relax on the shores of Zell am See

The area of Zell am See-Kaprun is surrounded by the Alps, crisscrossed by glaciers and the recesses of crystal clear lakes. It is one of the few places in Europe that can be proud of such a beautiful location. Kitzsteinhorn and Zeller See are the pearls of the region. While the glacier is a perfect land for lovers of frost and snow, the lake is tempting both in summer and winter. The village of Zell am See lies on its shores, surrounded by mountains on all sides. It is not only an important ski resort (it hosted the Alpine Ski World Cup and Snowboard World Cup competitions), but also the region's summer tourism center.

In addition, it is a great starting point to the surrounding nature reserves, including the Naturschutzgebiet Zeller See on the southern shore of the lake. The reserve is a stop for hundreds of bird species, resting here before continuing their journey. It is part of the EU's strict protection program Natura 2000. In summer, the free Kitzsteinhorn Explorer Tour is organized once a week. During the trip, the guides from the park explain to tourists how the glacier is formed, what game occurs in the surrounding mountains and what grows at an altitude of 3000 m above sea level. Those who would like to use their holiday in Austria for mountain climbing will not be disappointed when visiting Zell am See-Kaprun . The highest climbing wall in the world awaits them. You can also admire more than 30 of the surrounding three-thousanders from the top of the Schmittenhöhe .

Treasures from Poland

A few kilometers from the town of Zell am See there is a monumental building - the Fischhorn Castle. Its history dates back to the first half of the 13th century, and it owes its present neo-Gothic shape to the last reconstruction in the 19th century. It is in this castle that the German authorities hid the most valuable monuments from the National Museum in Warsaw, the Royal Castle, the Krasiński Library, the National Library and the Blue Palace. Some of the priceless works were recovered in 1946 thanks to the initiative of Bohdan Urbanowicz. An open-air exhibition "Treasures of Polish culture at Fischhorn Castle - an unfinished history" was opened in Zell am See in 2015. Until today, many works from the lost treasure have not been found.

Camping in Zell am See

Tourists who would like to get to know the area better and are looking for accommodation as close to the lake as possible, can take into account the offer prepared for guests by Panorama Camp Zell am See . The location in the immediate vicinity of the reservoir (it can be reached by bike in a few minutes) is one of the main advantages of the facility. Guests also praise the friendly service. A stay at the campsite will appeal to all those who love close contact with nature, not to mention the breathtaking views that can be seen after getting out of bed. Add to that the relaxing bird singing in the morning - just half a kilometer from the southern shore of Zell am See lies the Naturschutzgebiet Zeller See , a nature reserve with peat bogs rare in the Alps. The campsite attracts enthusiasts of active sightseeing, including cycling and long hikes, and in winter, fans of skiing and other activities in the snow come here. The region offers so many variants of spending time that only a fraction of the wide range of possibilities will be used during the holiday.
