The perfect plan for an active holiday in Garda Trentino – nature, sport and dolce vita

The perfect plan for an active holiday in Garda Trentino – nature, sport and dolce vita – main image

Are you looking for an idea for an active holiday that combines sport, relaxation and unique Italian landscapes? Garda Trentino is a region where every day can look different - one day you are floating on a SUP on a crystal clear lake, another time you are traversing narrow paths among olive groves or conquering peaks with a view of the Dolomites.

As a CampRest family (2+2), we completed this plan in its entirety – without skipping any of the points! Our children, aged 6 and 9, did great, which only confirms that adventure in this region can also be accessible to families with children. However, it is worth remembering that everyone has a different pace of travel and level of activity, so we encourage you to treat this plan as inspiration and adapt individual days to your abilities and preferences.

And if you don't feel like planning whole days, and you're just looking for proven places for a good meal - you can only use our culinary recommendations. Each restaurant we recommend has been personally tested by us and we recommend them with a clear conscience.

There are 9 days full of various attractions ahead of you: three picturesque towns, three atmospheric campsites and countless opportunities for active recreation in the bosom of nature - all in the rhythm of dolce vita.

Important tips:

  • Remember to ask for a Garda Guest Card at each campsite we recommend below, which gives you access to free public transport and discounts in the region.
  • To implement our plan, it will be easiest for you to have bikes with you. In places where we provide electric bikes, it means that on regular bikes it can be much harder, especially for children.
  • Some attractions, especially in the mountains, will be difficult to reach with a camper, so we recommend renting a car or scooter on site.

Day 0 – Arrival

The first day is arrival in Valle di Ledro and check-in at Best Ledro Camping .

Valle di Ledro is a peaceful valley located between Lake Garda and Valle del Chiese, surrounded by mountains reaching 2000 meters. Here you will find thirteen villages, a turquoise lake and areas protected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Day 1 – Ledro Valley on Two Wheels

Recommended means of transport: electric bike

Electric bike rentals at Bike M2 (the rental shop is located at Best Ledro Camping and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.).

There are 1,500 km of trails in Garda Trentino and there is something for everyone.

The route of the day is a panoramic loop around Lake Ledro – Ledro Tour: Link to the Ledro Tour bike route

You can have lunch at one of the places on the list. After lunch, more pedaling: a bike trip to the Gorg d'Abiss waterfall and a short walk. Then a ride to Lake Ampola

End the day with dinner at Osteria La Torre in Pieve di Ledro . Traditional Trentino cuisine.

Day 2 - Lake Time

Recommended means of transport: electric bike

You can order a unique breakfast "Breakfast on the pier" and spend such a lazy morning in an amazing place. You can make a reservation here >

After breakfast we suggest another bike tour to the Val Concei Valley and lunch at a restaurant at the end of the valley.

Before dinner, we recommend taking part in the “Fiori e Saponette” workshop – creating fragrant, natural soaps from herbs and flowers from the Lake Ledro area. You will also learn the history of this local pharmacy. Tickets cost €9 and must be booked the day before. You can find out more here.

For dinner, bike to the restaurant Locanda alla Perla .

Day 3 – SUP & Wakeboard

Recommended means of transport: bicycle + walking

Morning SUP session on Lake Ledro. We recommend booking for 8 or 9 o'clock when there is no wind and the water is perfectly flat, you can book here: Be Wake System . Right after SUP we recommend trying wakeboarding, also in the same place.

In the afternoon, we recommend relaxing on the beach in Molina di Ledro, just below the Best Ledro campsite.

Before sunset, climb to the overlook directly above the campground. This Great Bench and Heart is a symbol of hope and reconstruction. The bench was built from trees that were blown down by a storm in 2018.

Dinner at Steakhouse & Pizza al Sole , a few minutes walk from the campsite.

Day 4 - Arco

Recommended means of transport: camper/car + bike + walk

In the morning, calmly pack and leave Valle di Ledro. The drive to Arco takes about 30 minutes. Upon arrival, check in at Camping Arco . If check-in is not yet possible, leave your car in the parking lot and continue with your day's plan.

Spend the afternoon walking along the new Olive Tree Trail ( Sentiero dell'Olivo ) – an easy route among terraces and old olive groves with beautiful views of the Sarca Valley.

In the evening, bike ride to dinner at Bike Farm - an open-air restaurant surrounded by olive trees. Donkeys and small goats can accompany you at the table, and the menu includes delicious pizza with local ingredients. Every Friday there is a party with live music or another themed party - there is a very nice SLOW style atmosphere here.

Day 5 - A pleasant day in Riva del Garda

Recommended means of transport: bicycle + walking + public transport

Riva del Garda is the heart of the region – an elegant, lively town nestled between Lake Garda and the Brenta Dolomites. From Arco, you can get there by bike down the river in about 20-30 minutes.

It is worth starting the day with a visit to the Hydroelectric Power Plant – Hydrotour Dolomiti . This is a unique attraction and the opportunity to see a real, working hydroelectric power plant with your own eyes.

After the visit, it’s time for a walk around the city centre – shopping with local artisans, having an ice cream and relaxing in one of the city squares.

For lunch, choose a restaurant or café by the water – there are many options, especially by the port, you can find a full list here , but we especially recommend the Leon d' Oro restaurant, which we visit every time we are in Riva.

After lunch, we recommend taking the panoramic cable car up to the Bastion for views of the city. It’s also worth checking out the Apponale Tower – both are free with the Garda Guest Card.

Dinner at La Capannina Pizza & Grill . Delicious pizza, Italian classics and a view of the greenery – the perfect end to the day. You can get there by bike or free public transport.

Day 6 - Hike to Monte Stivo

Recommended means of transport: car + walking + bicycle

After breakfast, drive to Malga Campo (about 30-40 minutes by car, with a camper it may be difficult due to tight turns).

Arrival and start of the hike to Monte Stivo. The route leads to the Rifugio Stivo Prospero Marchetti shelter Route map >

In the afternoon, walk back to the starting point and return to the campsite and relax by the pool.

In the evening, dinner at Ristorante Pizzeria Pace – classic regional cuisine in an elegant setting. You can get there by bike or on foot from the campsite.

Day 7 - In the Valley of the Lakes (Valle dei Laghi)

Recommended means of transport: camper/car/bike + walking

Morning arrival and check-in at Camping Daino in Dro – an ideal base for exploring Valle dei Laghi.

We recommend a walk along the promenade on Lake Toblino, one of the most picturesque places in the region, with a romantic castle on the water.

Lunch at the Castel Toblino restaurant.

In the afternoon, a light hike along the Roggia di Calavino canal. Start behind the restaurant "Giardino delle Spezie" at the trout farm. The route leads through the gorge, vineyards and natural corners of the region. Link to the route >

Day 8 - Comano Valley: Bikes, Picnic and Horses

Recommended means of transport: car + bicycle

Transfer to Comano. On site, the e-bike cycling tour “Legends and Villages” starts – a quiet route through charming villages and green landscapes. You can reach the rental by car or camper and park near the rental.

After the ride, it is worth having a picnic. You can use AgriBreak – a set of local delicacies. Find your place and enjoy the nature and flavors of the region. You can get here by bike or by car (a camper will be rather tight).

Return to the Valley of the Lakes and take part in the “In the Footsteps of the Romans” horseback riding tour. The route leads through olive groves and peaceful areas – ideal also for those with no experience in horse riding. Details of the tour > (access by passenger car only).

Day 9 - Busatte-Tempesta Market and Trail

Recommended means of transport: car/public transport + walking

Start your morning by visiting the Riva del Garda market – it takes place every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. Catch the local atmosphere, we recommend a coffee in one of the historic cafes.

For lunch, choose something from the market stalls or cafés by the lake.

In the afternoon, the Busatte-Tempesta trail – an impressive hiking trail with lake views, along rocky cliffs. Start right next to the Le Busatte restaurant. Link to the trail >

Dinner, for example, at Ristorante Alla Stretta in Padergnone – intimate atmosphere and Trentino cuisine. It is worth trying the steak tartare (accessible by car).

Day 10 - Departure

A quiet morning and departure from the campsite.
