Thousands of tourists come to Poprad every year. They are attracted both by the great location - the city is the most important communication junction for people visiting the region in the eastern part of Slovakia - and the famous water park Aquacity Poprad.

I must admit that Poprad cannot compete with its beauty with the tourist pearls of Slovakia. On the other hand, it is not strictly a holiday resort, so it should not be required to attract attention with its appearance. Its architecture is dominated by contemporary concrete blocks of flats. The background adds charm to it - Poprad is situated by the magnificent Tatra Mountains. Beautiful mountain peaks, picturesquely snow-capped, are dignified above the city, contrasting with the prose of gray, slightly sad blocks. The mountains can be seen from every point of Poprad.

The second advantage of the city is the already mentioned location. All roads leading to the High Tatras intersect in Poprad. This is where the "elekriczki" route begins, connecting the most popular holiday resorts under the Tatra Mountains. From here you can travel by train to the Slovak Paradise National Park, to the Slovak Karst with its famous caves (including Ochtinska Aragonitowa Cave, Domica or Gombasecka), as well as to the Low Tatras. The access to Poprad itself is easy thanks to the new motorway and the airport, considered to be the highest located airport in Europe.

If not the most important, then certainly one of the most important - at least according to tourists - value of the city is the water park and its thermal waters. Since the foundation of Aquacity Poprad , the number of visitors to the region has increased every year. The idea of the water park was born in 2003, the first works were completed a year later, and in the following years the offer of the complex was expanded with new swimming pools. Currently, Aquacity Poprad is the most visited facility of this type in the country, although it is neither the largest nor the cheapest in Slovakia.

Aquacity Poprad - the secret of success

The offer of the aquapark is aimed at a more affluent client, which can be seen from the careful layout of the space and the elegance of the interior. This is especially true of indoor pools with the "king" at the head - Blue Sapphire , equipped with colorfully illuminated jacuzzi.

The outdoor pools are not too large (compared to the offer of domestic competitors), but you can admire the mountains dominating over the city. In addition, the guests of the complex will fully relax their body and mind during their stay in the sauna, thanks to cryotherapy or massages available in the Wellness area .

Aquacity Poprad is more like a luxurious place for rest and relaxation, not entertainment. This distinguishes it from the nearby Tatralandia. The owners of the facility also pride themselves on the fact that visitors can see a 3D laser show , the only one of its kind that can be seen in a European water park.

A walk around Poprad

During a visit to Poprad, it is worth taking a stroll around St. Giles , a bird's eye view of a large spindle. Most of the monuments are concentrated here. The attention of tourists is attracted by burgher houses with stone portals, shingle roofs, the eyes of walkers are also focused on the Renaissance temple with an attic and the church of St. Giles.

The square is beautiful but renovated. Lovers of old architecture, wishing to see the original medieval buildings, should visit Spiska Sobota , located on the hill. They will not be disappointed for sure.

Poprad belonged to Poland for 350 years, and today our Slovak neighbors enjoy it. It is worth visiting, especially since it is so close - it is less than an hour's drive from Białka Tatrzańska.
