When we think of a place, where the beaches are considerably clean, and the resorts colorful and teeming with music not only in summer, we see Croatia. After a moment, we focus on the island of Krk and its capital of the same name.

Krk - how to pronounce it? Regardless of whether we do it properly, the town bearing this name is one of the most beautiful and most attractive Croatian tourist resorts. It’s located on the largest island of the bay Kvaner, also called Krk. Every year it’s visited by thousands of tourists - both fans of water sports, as well as adherents of blissful lounging. Its inhabitants are dependent mainly on tourism and fisheries.

One of the many strengths of Krk is the possibility of getting to the island by a bridge – there’s no need to use ferry. It was built in the 80s of last century, and has nearly 1.5 km. The toll for using the bridge is paid only at the entrance, when you leave the island it’s free of charge.

It’s best to come here in the summer, when the streets are filled with bustle and music. The old part of the city hosts numerous jazz and folk festivals. In the season you can enjoy, among others, Tourism Day, where you can try the specialties of the region: cooked lamb, ravioli, fig cakes and sardines with fruit. Folklore performances, vocal and dance shows provide a great entertainment for tourists after a day of sightseeing. And there’s plenty to explore - Krk can boast of the largest number of monuments in the whole area. Over the resort tower medieval fortifications, while the old city is surrounded by thick protective walls counting 2000 years. Equally eye-catching is the early Christian basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, one of the greatest monuments of Krk.

The town has a magnificent complex of cathedrals and a large number of churches. Each of the religious buildings deserves attention, especially the Church of Our Lady of Good Health or a Benedictine monastery and church of Our Lady of the Angels. That's a fraction of the sights that every year attract fans of sacred architecture to the city.

Many cultural events take place in Frankopanski Kaštel, located at Kamplin Square. It’s a must-see during exploring Krk.

Weary travelers can rest in countless pubs and cafes, not to mention the souvenir stands. Really plenty of them are located on Vela Placa, a square full of aromas coming from the nearby restaurants. The local menu is based on traditional Croatian cuisine and Mediterranean dishes that are colorful dishes consisting of a variety of flavors.

The resort is famous for its historical monuments, but also for wonderful pebble and rocky beaches. The most popular beaches of the island are two that moreover belong to the city - Ježevac and Drazica. If anyone imagines staying there as monotonous lying in anticipation of getting a golden tan is mistaken. All beaches around Krk offer visitors a whole lot of entertainment. You can play tennis, volleyball, basketball, football, you can also use one of the many bike or walking paths, stretching along the island.

Camping by the Jezevac Beach
