Computerized power boost in the motorhome

For motorhome owners, more engine power means greater driving comfort and reduced fuel consumption. This is why chip tuning is so popular among caravanning enthusiasts. Remember, however, that if it is poorly carried out, it can be really dangerous for the car. A fully equipped motorhome based on Fiat Ducato is not the lightest and generates a lot of resistance on the road, especially models with an alcove. No wonder that the owners of these cars most often choose models with a large engine. Unfortunately, they are in the way of the Polish tax system, because cars with an engine capacity of more than 2 liters are subject to excise duty of as much as 18.6%.

This is a big difference to the tax that buyers of motorhomes with a smaller engine have to pay. For them, the rate is only 3.1%, which in the case of a car for PLN 200,000 means considerable savings. When choosing a car with a smaller engine, however, we should prepare for a lower driving comfort. Can this be remedied?

Chip tunning motorhome

The solution turns out to be simpler than you might think. In modern motorhomes, the engine parameters are controlled by programmable electronic systems. Manufacturers rarely make it possible to use the full power of the engine - thus reducing the risk of its damage due to improper operation.

It is no different in the case of Fiat Ducato. The most frequently chosen by caravanning enthusiasts, with a lower excise tax, the version with a 2-liter MultiJet engine develops the maximum power specified by the manufacturer - 115 HP. However, the car's capabilities are slightly greater, and thanks to the digital power increase, the driver can reduce fuel consumption, make overtaking safer and improve the comfort of the journey.

Trust the specialists

The company from Bielsko-Biała, Ecusoft , has been specializing in chip tuning for motorhomes and vans for many years. Its expert, however, warns against ill-considered digital increase of engine power. After all, a motorhome is not a racing car, and comfort and safety are more important than performance. In order to avoid engine seizure, it is best to increase its power by a maximum of about 25-30 HP.

Nominally, this is a 20% change, but it may turn out that we will gain even more. A specialist from Ecusoft claims that none of the motorhomes measured so far on the Fiat Ducato chassis had the power declared by the manufacturer. Measurements showed only 105 HP, which means that Fiat lowered the car's performance by as much as a tenth.
