How to keep the battery in good condition?

How to keep the battery in good condition? – main image

The car battery is like our health. When we are fine, we operate at full capacity. We over-exploit the body, until at some point it refuses to obey and forces us to "perform a check-up" at the doctor's office. It is similar with the battery.

When we start the engine every day, we do not think about the condition of our battery. Only the emerging problems with the ignition, or its complete absence, forces us to intervene quickly. Most passenger cars use maintenance-free lead-acid batteries, but there are also gel, gel-like electrolyte and AGM batteries on the market, in which glass fiber mats are soaked with electrolyte. The most popular ones, used in our cars, maintenance-free, however, require inspections. Because the way we use our car battery will affect its condition and failure-free operation for years.

The most difficult period for the battery is winter and low temperatures. They significantly reduce the starting power, especially if the car is “in the open air”. Garaged cars are also not safe, after all, not every garage is heated. Let's give our battery a "suit", a special thermal cover, to protect it from the disastrous effects of the cold. Before the winter season, check the battery voltage level. A meter is used for this, which we will buy at the petrol station. We use it to check the voltage at the poles. Valid values are 13.9V to 14.5V with the engine running and the lights or other source on. If we do not have such a device, or we are concerned that our measurement was not performed properly, we should consult a specialist.

If we notice that the battery is not fully charged, we have a problem with ignition, connect it to a good-quality charger (preferably with an overcharge protection function), fill in any electrolyte losses and recharge. Proper charging current should not exceed 1/10 of the battery capacity. With a 60V battery, it will be 6V. Remember that when our equipment is completely discharged, we must take into account that even our actions in the form of connecting the rectifier will not restore its 100% efficiency. Caring for the proper condition of the battery, let's follow certain standards. Every 6 months, we should clean the clamps and poles, remembering that we always disconnect the first "minus". A wire brush, sandpaper, they'll solve the problem. To counteract "tarnishing" and to improve the conductivity, secure the contacts with technical petroleum jelly or other means for this purpose.

Let's check the correct mounting of our battery in the interior of the car. In order to improve the condition of the battery, radio, lights and other elements of the car's equipment, try to always turn off before starting the engine. The alternator will be able to recharge the battery in this way. Store the unused battery in a cool, well-ventilated place, remembering to top it up every 2-3 months. Regular maintenance will ensure that the battery will work for a long time and trouble-free. Source of data and information provided in the article: http://www.specpart.pl/

Electricity and electricity in a motorhome - EcoFlow stations
Probably everyone who drives a camper or caravan has experienced a power deficit on board. On the other hand, we are now accustomed to using many electrically powered devices on a daily basis. Therefore, it is hard for us to imagine their absence during shorter or longer camper trips. To receive electricity in our mobile home with a voltage of 230V, i.e. the same as in a home socket, we must connect the camper to the electricity network, e.g. at a campsite. Another way is to equip the camper with a voltage converter . One of the tasks of the converter is to change the 12V voltage (which we obtain directly from the battery) to 230V, which allows us to power devices such as laptops, mixers, drones, cameras, hair dryers, waffle irons, toasters, coffee machines, various types of chargers, etc.

Zooom - a small motorhome with an electric drive
You have certainly heard about electric cars more than once. But have you come across a motorhome powered by fuel from an outlet? The German company Zooom now offers a camper van with several engines to choose from - one of them is fully electric. The Zooom company has been building motorhomes since 1998. The manufacturer declares that its vehicles meet individual needs while maintaining reasonable prices and careful workmanship. Vehicles based on Citroen Jumper or Peugeot Partner were already on sale. Currently, however, the manufacturer uses only the Nissan NV200 as the basis for its touring cars, and these cars have received a new name: Zooom Stadtindianer . The car is 4.56 meters long and 1.75 meters wide. Its height (with the roof folded down) is 1.98 m.

Necessary in a motorhome - chargers and power adapters
The necessary elements of the motorhome's equipment include an electrician - batteries, generators or alternative energy sources, ensuring comfort and safety of the trip. There should also be a practical charger and power adapter on board the camping vehicle. What are their tasks? About it below!. Probably every motorhome owner has found out that the battery can play a trick at the least expected moment of the trip. It is worth remembering that it can be discharged both while the engine is running and when the vehicle is stationary. Hence, the systematic charging of the battery has a key impact on the smooth operation of the vehicle, and also on its service life. In order to avoid reducing the efficiency of the cell by excessive consumption or undercharging of the battery, it is worth remembering to purchase a special charger with a trickle charge function. In stores with camping accessories , we can find a wide range of chargers for motorhomes and caravans. Particularly noteworthy are the high-quality Dometic models from the Perfect Charge series, available in several current options (including 7A / 12V, 12.5A / 24V, 15A, 12V, 25A / 12V, 35A / 12V, 40A / 24V) . Modern motorhome chargers automatically adapt to the state of charge of the battery, have multi-stage charging technology and are equipped with a special start-stop function that ensures optimal charging of acid, gel and AGM batteries. The wide range of input voltage allows the charger to be used almost anywhere in the world. Thanks to special overload protection, these chargers do not adversely affect the battery life. Their compact and lightweight design with built-in space for cables makes them quick and hassle-free to install. Intuitive one-button operation is an additional advantage. When deciding to buy a motorhome charger, it is also worth taking a look at useful accessories. The sale includes, among others, remote controls and temperature sensors for chargers.
