Traveling on European roads is relatively simple and convenient. Nevertheless, there are situations when we need to plan a trip through certain countries. There may be numerous road tolls in their area that must be paid in advance. If you want to travel on Czech roads, please remember this to avoid possible unpleasantness. What is worth knowing about road tolls in this country? We give you a hint!
What vignettes are valid in the Czech Republic in 2024?
The road toll system that applies in the Czech Republic, as in many other European countries, is designed to finance, maintain and develop road infrastructure. The system is based mainly on e-vignettes, which are mandatory for passenger cars and light campers (GVW up to 3.5 tons), as well as on the electronic toll collection system (so-called e-toll) for vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons.
What are the penalties for not having a vignette?
Failure to pay a vignette may result in costly consequences, which usually include financial penalties. Each country that applies this type of toll has its own individual rates. In the case of the Czech Republic, the average fine for not having the appropriate vignette is CZK 3,000. We can receive a maximum fine of CZK 20,000.

Each country using road tolls has its own methods of verifying and collecting them. In the case of the Czech Republic, we are dealing with a fully electronic system that includes both e-vignettes and e-tolls. The solution we will have to use if we want to travel on highways and expressways in the Czech Republic depends on the weight of our vehicle.
- vehicles up to 3.5 tons GVM - in this case we will need a vignette. It includes both passenger cars (with a trailer up to and over 750 kg) and light campers with a GVW of up to 3.5t ;
- vehicles over 3.5 tons GVW - if our car exceeds the weight limit, we will need a special device issued by e.g. MYTO CZ . Thanks to it, we will be able to pay the toll applicable to vehicles over 3.5 tons GVW. This group includes, among others: large campers, vans, buses and others.
It is also worth knowing that when riding a motorcycle on Czech highways, we are exempt from tolls that apply to four-wheeled vehicles or those with more than one.
