Terrassencamping Maltatal is located in one of the greenest parts of Carinthia, in the Malta Valley in southern Austria. The campsite is situated at an altitude of approximately 800 meters above sea level, between the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve. It's the perfect place for those who want to combine camping with mountain hikes, mountain biking, and exploring waterfalls and other attractions in the region.

The site has been run by the Pirker family for generations. Covering approximately 4 hectares, it offers approximately 220 terraced pitches nestled among trees and well-maintained hedges. There's also a swimming pool, restaurant, shop, children's activities, and wellness facilities. Terrassencamping Maltatal has received numerous awards from camping organizations and clubs, including ADAC, ANWB, ACSI, and ECC.

Terrassencamping Maltatal is characterized by its terraced terrain. Pitches are approximately 80–110 m² in size, and trees and hedges provide ample greenery and help separate individual pitches. All pitches have electricity, and most also have their own water connection and drainage. A service point for refilling and emptying water systems is also available for campers.

Pitches are divided into several categories. Category 1 pitches are located primarily on terraces and on the perimeter of the campsite and have electricity, water, and drainage. They are designed for various types of camping equipment. Category 2 and 3 pitches are simpler and, according to the campsite, are particularly suitable for tents and folding trailers. When booking, you can indicate your preferred category or section of the campsite, but a specific pitch number is not guaranteed.

The facility features two modern sanitary buildings. In addition to showers and toilets, there are washing machines, dryers, a special area for washing babies, and a room adapted for people with disabilities. One of the sanitary areas, called Panorama-Oase, was designed as a spacious and bright back area with views of the surrounding area.

Large swimming pool, animals and attractions for children

Terrassencamping Maltatal is well-equipped for family holidays. One of the highlights on warm days is the 25 x 12.5 m solar-heated outdoor pool. There's also a paddling pool for the little ones. So, after a day of hiking or exploring Carinthia, you don't have to leave the campsite to spend a few hours by the water.

Children can enjoy a playground, soccer field, table tennis, and a tricycle track. The campsite also has animals, including ponies. During the season, pony rides, animal feeding sessions, and tractor rides around the site are organized. The program may also include torchlight tours and musical events.

Adults can also enjoy the sauna, steam room, and infrared cabin. Wi-Fi is available throughout the grounds, and charging stations for electric cars are also available. Those traveling with dogs have access to a dedicated dog run.

Restaurant, shopping and accommodation without your own camper

There's a restaurant and pizzeria with a terrace on site. The menu includes traditional Austrian dishes and pizzas prepared in a wood-fired oven. Some dishes are also available for takeout. This means that for longer stays, you don't have to cook in your camper or caravan every day.

The campsite also has a small shop with basic supplies. You can buy things like fresh bread from the local bakery and everyday essentials. This is especially convenient for those who plan to spend most of their time camping or hit the mountain trails early in the morning.

Terrassencamping Maltatal is also suitable for those who wish to travel without their own camper or trailer. The property offers six mobile homes, each approximately 32 m² in size, accommodating up to five people. Each has a covered veranda, a living area with a kitchen, two separate bedrooms, a bathroom, and a toilet. One bedroom has a double bed, while the other has a bunk bed and an additional single bed. Guests staying in these mobile homes are required to bring their own bedding.

Maltatal – waterfalls, mountains and over 300 km of trails

The location is one of the greatest advantages of this Carinthian campsite. The Malta Valley is renowned for its mountain landscapes and numerous waterfalls, and there are over 300 km of marked hiking trails throughout the region. You can choose from easier family walks to routes leading high into the mountains. The area also offers cycling, climbing, and canyoning opportunities.

About 5 km from the campsite is the Fallbach Falls, considered the highest free-falling waterfall in Carinthia. At its foot is the Fallbach Waterfall, a water and nature park with attractions for families with children. Also nearby is the Eselpark Maltatal, where donkeys and other animals are the main attractions.

Gmünd, a few kilometers away, is also worth a visit. The small town is known for its galleries, art studios, and the castle that dominates the town. Car enthusiasts can visit the Porsche Museum in Gmünd – it was here that the first car bearing the Porsche name was created in the late 1940s.

One of the most iconic hikes in the region is the Malta Hochalmstraße mountain road to the Kölnbrein Dam. The dam itself, at around 200 meters high, is the tallest structure of its kind in Austria. On-site, you can climb the Airwalk viewing platform and explore the interior of the dam on guided tours.
