What does Wallonia attract?

Wallonia is attractive mainly in terms of its landscape. There are many hiking and cycling routes in the wooded Ardennes. These mountains are not high – they rise to about 700 meters, and because they are rich in coal and iron deposits, we can see there industrial monuments: former mines and steel mills. People who value contact with nature will appreciate the natural qualities of Wallonia.

Industrial Wallonia

An interesting fact is that during the industrial revolution Wallonia was second only to Great Britain in terms of industrialization. All thanks to the vast deposits of coal and iron. Industry has provided the region with wealth for many years; From the beginning of the 19th to the mid-20th century, Wallonia was the most prosperous part of Belgium. However, after World War II, the importance of heavy industry decreased significantly. Most of the main cities of Wallonia lie along the Sambre and Meuse valleys located in the line of Belgium's former industrial backbone. To the north of this valley, Wallonia lies on the Central Belgian plateau, which is relatively flat and fertile for agriculture.
