Electric Ducato - a preview of the future?
Following the trends in the field of electromobility, also Fiat - one of the kings of the motorhome market - introduces an electric vehicle based entirely on alternative power supply. Available in 2 versions, the vehicle has a range of 235 km (3-module, 47 kWh) to 370 km (5-module, 79 kWh).

One of the innovative technologies is the electronic cooling and braking system. E-Coasting is an energy-saving driving mode that is activated when the vehicle slows down. This way, the electric motor does not draw current from the battery and supplies negative torque to recharge the battery.
The main argument for this solution, apart from the obvious reasons related to the reduced CO2 emissions, are the operating costs , which according to calculations presented in marketing materials are several times lower than in the case of combustion units.
In addition, we can count on discounts, lower tax burdens and easier access to central zones of many cities. Such cars will certainly be perfect for urban transport of things and people "around the chimney". The user has several options for intelligent charging, both from DC and AC sources. With a volume of up to 17 m3 and a GVM of 4.25 tonnes, the new Fiat Ducato can be a truly versatile and economical workhorse.
Too early for e-mobility in motorhomes?
In the industry, we see more and more new motorhomes based on alternative power sources (e.g. the all-electric Dethleffs e.home prototype or the mass-production Dethleffs model based on the Ford e.Hybrid).
While the efficiency of hybrid drives proves that this type of drives can pass the test in the motorhome world, electrical constructions are not yet convincing, especially in terms of cell capacity and range. The weight of the batteries and the superstructures are also of great importance. The purchase price of, for example, the new Ducato described above is also of considerable importance - it oscillates around PLN 300,000. PLN gross.
I feel best in the form of trade fairs and meetings with enthusiasts. Technical freak. In my life I have dismantled many motorhomes for the first time. Fan of large vehicles, mountain biking and traveling without weight and financial restrictions. At CampRest, I am responsible for all publications on automotive topics.
