Hymer StarLight

Hymer StarLight – main image

Currently, most of the new motorhomes are based on the Fiat Ducato design. The German Hymer is an exception here as it benefits from the expertise of Mercedes-Benz. The basis for the Starlight series is a Mercedes Sprinter 316 CDI equipped with a 2.2 liter engine. It allows you to reach the power of 163 HP. You can also order a 190 HP version with an automatic transmission. Each version of the Stralight can be driven with a category B driving license.

Outside, the attention is drawn to the triple windscreen wipers and xenon headlights. You may also like the streamlined shapes of the front part of the body, completely different than in the Sprinter. However, as it happens in the case of motorhomes, in order to know its main advantages, you have to look inside.

The vehicle is available with three different interior layouts, the differences being not that significant. The largest ones concern the main bed, which can be in the form of a double bed (positioned along or across the vehicle axis) or two separate beds. In each version, the bed for children is placed under the ceiling, above the heads of the driver and passenger, and during the day it can be lowered electrically, transforming it into a sofa. All beds have high-quality foam mattresses. In total, no more than 4 people can travel in this motorhome.

What's important on long journeys is the capacity of the water tanks. The StarLight tank can hold up to 170 liters of clean water and 140 liters of dirty water. The fuel tank can also be an advantage, as it can optionally be enlarged to 100 liters. Speaking of capacity, the 160-liter refrigerator is also worth mentioning.

Elements that deserve attention include a wooden, revolving table, night light, lamps in the living room and bedroom, as well as a radio and a TV set. There are many storage compartments in the car, and the ceiling cabinets are equipped with ventilation.

But not only ventilation, but also heating is a special advantage of the StarLight model. The heat is provided by the 6000W Trauma heating system. Hot air outlets are located in many places of the motorhome. Heat is also provided by a hot curtain above the instrument cluster and a heating cable mounted in the rear bed (or beds). If we add very good thermal insulation to it, the car will turn out to be a great solution also for trips to the northern regions of Europe. Breathable internal walls ensure that the air in the vehicle is properly humid in both summer and winter.

In higher-class campers, a separate bathroom with a toilet bowl, washbasin and shower is a standard. It is no different in this Hymera model as well. The bathroom is separated from the rest of the vehicle by a solid wooden door. The walls of the vehicle are also of the same warm color. The floor looks as if it has been covered with wooden panels, which adds a homely character to the interior. There is a large sunroof in the ceiling. An additional, tilt window is located above the sink in the kitchen area.

The car is also equipped with systems that increase driving safety, such as ABS, ESP, ASR and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBV).

Prices start from approx. 82 thousand. Euro, the final price, as usual, depends on the individually selected specification of the equipment.

Sun and rain protection at the campsite
The weather, especially on summer holidays, can be capricious. Although it is impossible to predict it, we can be properly prepared for it. Whether it is sun or rain - it is worth considering the equipment of the motorhome that will allow us to enjoy the holiday regardless of the weather conditions. What accessories are worth investing in? Especially awnings, side walls and roller blinds for motorhomes will protect us from the scorching sun and persistent rainfall. Although awnings are optional accessories for a motorhome, investing in buying them before the summer season can save us a lot of nerves during our dream trip. Each of us has experienced at least once the discomfort associated with the heat pouring down from the sky and the hours of rain, which effectively discourage leaving the motorhome. Fortunately - the solutions available in the stores with camping accessories are a real godsend during bad weather. There are two types of awnings to choose from by the owners of motorhomes - wall and roof awnings, which, as the name suggests, are mounted on the side of the vehicle or on the roof, always in places reinforced at the factory by the vehicle manufacturer. When the weather conditions are unfavorable, a well-taut material is ejected quietly and gently from a special cassette, which is an effective barrier against sun rays or raindrops. In the offer of leading manufacturers such as Dometic, Fiamma or Thule, we can find both manually operated awnings and those equipped with an electric system. When buying, it is worth paying attention to models equipped with a special rain drainage pipe.
