KiraVan - the only such gift in the world
The KiraVan is an extreme vehicle, built to accommodate even incredible expeditions. The most surprising, however, is the fact that this camping "monster truck" was designed as a gift for ... a four-year-old girl.
This is not the first automotive madness of Bran Ferren , co-owner of Applied Mind, which deals, among other things, with the development of architectural design programs.
A few years ago, on the basis of his project, Maximog was created - an unusual off-road vehicle based on the Mercedes Unimog. From the outside, it was distinguished by large wheels and quite strange proportions - the vehicle seemed very tall and narrow at the same time. In relation to the base vehicle, virtually everything has been changed, including all electronics and the suspension, which gained computer control.
A space toy
The KiraVan project is even more amazing. The car has been under construction for four years and is reportedly still not ready yet, but it must be admitted that it is not an easy project to implement.
The KiraVan looks like a spaceship not only from the outside. Massive dimensions, lots of antennas, ladders necessary to get inside - all this makes a big impression.
In the interior, however, not so much the top-class equipment (which could be expected) is surprising, but above all the huge number of screens, indicators and switches .
And this applies to both the living area and the driver's cabin, in which we can feel like in the cockpit of an airplane. There are 11 displays on the dashboard, including 6 touch screens.
Monster Truck
But let's focus on technical issues. The car has 3 axles and each of them can be driven. The user can choose from 4x4 or 6x6 mode.
When the all-wheel drive is engaged, the KiraVan can reach a top speed of approx. 50 km / h. It's not much, but such a drive is designed for particularly difficult terrain. In road conditions, 4-wheel drive is enough and the vehicle can accelerate to 112 km / h .
In order for the car to cope with difficult terrain, the hydro-controlled suspension, which uses nitrogen for proper operation, helps. The vehicle is able to climb even slopes inclined at an angle of 45 degrees , and thanks to the large, 46-inch wheels, small water reservoirs will not be a problem for it. The tires are reinforced with Kevlar , which is to ensure their durability even in difficult terrain.
Travel without refueling
The KiraVan with a trailer weighs 23.5 tons . The vehicle is powered by an inline six-cylinder turbodiesel with a capacity of 6.4 liters, 280 HP of power and a maximum torque of 1100 Nm.
The fuel and water tanks are said to be spacious enough to cover 3,200 kilometers without refilling them . If a lot of debris collects on board, KiraVan even has its own incinerator . Two diesel generators and solar panels will ensure that there is no shortage of electricity.
This RV-class motorhome is said to include even an Enduro motorcycle with a Smart 3-cylinder turbo diesel.
Bran Ferren is reportedly looking forward to the expedition during which he will show his daughter the United States and then take her to Europe. So it is possible that we will have the opportunity to see KiraVan with our own eyes. And also see if Mr. Bran's daughter is happy with the gift she received from her dad.
