It may happen that even if you have been enjoying riding a motorcycle for some time, you have not had the opportunity to go on a longer escapade lasting at least a few days. However, you don't have to plan on such an expedition to face the dilemma: what to pack all the necessary things into? The motorcycle itself offers some possibilities in this respect, but the load capacity is limited, which is why manufacturers compete with each other in solutions that can make things easier. What are these options? What accessories should you choose to make riding a motorcycle a pleasure not only during, but also during the preparation stage?
We are aware that the topic we discuss here will not be able to exhaust all aspects of the issue. We all know that we can talk about any topic related to motorcycles for hours - both with many years of experience and with first skills. Therefore, we only provide general information about purchasing a motorcycle case in an accessible way.
Luggage - organizing motorcycle riding, or a few words about the possibilities
Regardless of whether you use your own machine or decide to rent a motorcycle, there are several ways to transport the items needed by motorcyclists. What are these options?
The cases come in several variants that can be adapted to the needs of motorcyclists. Selected models can be found at https://www.intermotors.pl/pl/kufry-boczne-motocyklowe . According to the basic classification, we distinguish central trunks and side trunks.
A motorcycle top case, despite its name, is placed at the rear of the vehicle, so the luggage does not affect the center of gravity of the motorcycle, as is the case with side cases. The rear position allows you to transport even heavier items that do not require changing your driving technique, e.g. during turns. The specific design of the scooter's central case means that it can have a larger capacity compared to other types of cases.
Motorcycle side cases perfectly complement the central case. To use them safely, you must provide a counterweight before riding. Two side cases must be attached to both sides of the motorcycle and weigh the same so as not to disturb stability while riding.
Panniers are most often chosen by people who do not want or cannot mount a pannier on their motorcycle. The side bags are connected with an adjustable belt, which allows you to adjust their height and distance from the exhaust. Of course, like any solution, panniers have their drawbacks - their universality is associated with lower load capacity compared to traditional side cases.
A fuel tank bag, also known as a tank bag, is a very practical solution. It is ideal for transporting a phone and documents, and if the weather at the destination is stable, you can also pack T-shirts, a change of underwear, a toothbrush and toothpaste. Of course, it all depends on the size of the bag and your packing skills. It is worth investing in a tank bag with a "window" that allows you to place a smartphone and use it as a navigation device.
Which way to store your luggage is the best? Much depends on individual preferences and experience, on how you want to ride, what speeds you can achieve and what terrain you want to travel on.
Types of motorcycle cases
Motorcycle cases can be divided according to the material from which they are made.
A common solution, especially when you are planning an adventure - riding a motorcycle off the trail, are aluminum cases. It is a solid structure ready for almost any challenge, not necessarily in controlled conditions. A solid construction and large capacity are possible here, accommodating all the motorcyclist's belongings. Additionally, you can attach special waterproof bags to the trunk lids, although you must be aware of limited aerodynamics and the fact that you will not be able to use the full power of the engine.
Questions asked also often touch on the topic of reconciling aerodynamics with space efficiency. Plastic trunks are the perfect solution here, especially if you are interested in sports achievements. They are light and often have streamlined shapes, which allows you to maintain a stable highway speed without losing the motorcycle's driving parameters.
How to install a case on a motorcycle?
When installing the top case, first adjust the base to the place where it is to be mounted. Then use the mounting brackets and pre-screw it. The next step is to try to attach the case itself. If this is not possible, simply unscrew the plate and change its position slightly. Once you've screwed it back on, try attaching the case again. You should hear the mounting system click. You should also make sure that the case is level. If so, you can remove it and proceed with the final tightening of the plate. Finally, simply place the motorcycle case on the plate.
Use our tips when matching the case to your motorcycle. Of course, these preferences may change with experience. The most important thing is to match the type of accessories to your needs.
