Tourist body in a passenger car? Yes, it is possible. There are at least a few companies in the world that offer modular solutions that allow you to turn a motorhome into a motorhome. Now, however, a Polish brand is also entering the market - SmartCamp.

Krzysztof Skiba is passionate about caravanning. However, he believes that typical motorhomes are not mobile enough and uneconomical - especially if someone uses their motorhome only for a few weeks a year. In such a situation, a sensible alternative would be useful, such as the possibility of using a passenger car for tourism purposes . If it succeeds, you will be able to appreciate the charms of active recreation closer to nature without incurring high costs.

It was this philosophy that led Krzysztof Skiba to create the SmartCamp brand. And although there are also other manufacturers in the world who offer modular bodies for passenger cars , the Polish manufacturer argues that its solutions will not only be more functional , but also cheaper compared to the proposals of Western competitors.

Bed for "passenger car"

The basic version of the SmartCamp body is a folding bed , intended mainly for vans or station wagons, but it can also be used in larger hatchbacks or liftback bodies (the trunk opens together with the rear window).

After folding, the set is so compact - and therefore small in size - that it can not be removed from the car at all . Attached to the backrests of the rear seats, it will not take up much space, even when transporting large purchases.

And when the need arises, turning this set into a practical bed is very easy. The arrangement of the board structure and the placement of mattresses on them is a task that can be performed in a few minutes. So it is enough to take a moment from making a decision to take a short nap or overnight stay to the moment when this idea is realized. It couldn't be easier.

Van with faucet and stove

The set consisting of a bed and a kitchen and sanitary unit installed in the luggage area is even more interesting. In this configuration, the bed frame conceals a set of cabinets, which can be accessed by opening the tailgate.

In retractable containers we can find a gas stove, a sink with soap and dishwashing liquid dispensers and a tap . The elements of this set also include a water installation with a clean water tank, hose and water pump, as well as a drainage system with a waste water tank, drain and drain hose, as well as electrical wiring. In the cabinets there will also be a place for dishes, cutlery or other items, and in such a configured car you can additionally install a refrigerator.

An interesting fact is that this set can be turned into ... a table and a sofa . Two of the four mattress parts can be folded on top of each other and placed on a set of cabinets, which will increase the height of a makeshift table. The two remaining parts at an angle to each other can be used to make a rearward-facing seat and backrest (supported by the front seats). The seat mattress should be placed on the fully folded seats of the second row of seats, so this solution can only be used in cars (usually vans) that have this option. There is free space for legs between the sofa prepared in this way and the table.

Optional vestibule

In addition, SmartCamp also offers sun visors that allow you to create a vestibule connected to the side or rear wall of the car. The cover can also be folded up separately, i.e. away from the vehicle. It can be used not only at the campsite, but also, for example, as a sun or wind protection on the beach.

Since SmartCamp is just starting to sell its sets, and in the case of beds and kitchen and sanitary modules, they are adapted to the dimensions of individual vehicle models, the price list is still unknown. However, via the SmartCamp.pl website, you can send an inquiry and get a quote for a specific car model . The manufacturer ensures that its prices will be competitive with the solutions already known on the market.

From 20 to 22 November, SmartCamp products will be on display during the Warsaw Moto Show 2015 in Nadarzyn (stand 51). Brand representatives will answer visitors' questions.

If any of you cannot come to the fair, please visit the producer's website www.smartcamp.pl for more information and watch the film where you can see Krzysztof's work.

Poznań, 27 July 2016 - Today, the two and a half millionth car in the history of the Company rolled off the assembly line of Volkswagen Poznań. This number of cars has been produced in Poznań since 1993. The jubilee is an opportunity for memories, summaries and presentation of plans for the Poznań Plants. The owner of the unique 2.5 millionth Volkswagen Caddy is Mr. Dominik Pochodyła, an entrepreneur who runs an orchard and a pressing plant on a daily basis. “2,500,000 cars are a beautiful anniversary for us. I am proud of our employees and how much our company has developed over the last twenty years. We are the largest employer in Greater Poland, a strong production center for the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand with an average annual production of 170-175 thousand cars. Our position will strengthen with the launch of the new Volkswagen Crafter plant in Białężyce near Września, which is scheduled for the second half of this year ”. - says Dietmar Mnich, Director of the Volkswagen Plant in Antoninek in Poznań. Poznań did not immediately become the production center for Transporter and Caddy. In 1994, the assembly of Skoda Felicia cars was started in the factory - this year, less than 800 units of this model were manufactured here. In the following years, various models of brands were also assembled in Poznań: SEAT (Cordoba), Audi (A6) and Volkswagen (including Bora, Polo, Passat). In 1995, as the first automotive company in Poland, the factory obtained the DIN ISO 9002 certificate, which confirms the company's special care for the environment. Just a year later, Volkswagen Poznań established a foundry. To this day, it produces aluminum components, which are then installed in many cars of various brands from the Volkswagen concern. The years 2002 and 2003 were a breakthrough in the company's history. Then the last Skoda Fabia rolled off the assembly lines of the Poznań factory, and the factory was prepared for the production of two base models - Volkswagen Caddy and Volkswagen Transporter. Significant expansion of the factory involving, inter alia, on the construction of a modern paint shop and the creation of a special body shop, it meant not only an increase in employment, but also in the total production capacity from about 40,000 to about 170,000 cars per year. As a result, on December 11, 2007, the factory celebrated the production of the millionth car, the Caddy Maxi Furgon. In 2015, 170,810 vehicles were produced at Volkswagen Poznań: 20,447 Volkswagen Transporter models and 150,363 Volkswagen Caddy cars. These models are sent from Poznań to customers all over the world. Continuously since 2003, Volkswagen Poznań is the only factory in the world that produces the Volkswagen Caddy light commercial vehicle. Currently, the production capacity of the factory allows for the production of 720 cars a day.
