Can there be anything more enjoyable than a summer vacation in nature, with friends, and delicious grilled dishes and cold drinks? Unfortunately, barbecuing is not allowed on every campsite.
The rules for grilling are usually set by the campsite owners themselves. There are areas where grilling is very common, but there are also areas where it is difficult to find a suitable place. Therefore, before leaving, it is worth gathering information about a given field and checking whether grilling is possible on it.
Grilling full of pitfalls
The rules do not have to be set in a radical way, on the basis of "yes" or "no". There may be times when certain types of equipment are allowed. So it is possible that in a place where lighting a wood grill is forbidden, there will be no problem with using a gas or electric grill.
There are also some pitfalls to watch out for. A campsite marked as grill-friendly may, for example, allow grilling only in a designated place, on a fire place installed on site, which will no longer be an attractive proposition in the presence of a large number of people on the field. That is why it is worth reading internet forums before leaving or asking friends who have already been to a specific place.
If we have already checked everything and we are sure that we will be able to "grill", let us also pay attention to our neighbors. Set up the grill in a place where the smoke does not disturb other camp users' rest.
Which grill to choose?
There are three types of grill to choose from.
The wood grill will be the most traditional. In the opinion of many people, only the wood-fired grill delivers the meat flavor that the game really is about. However, a tree grill is the most dangerous (risk of fire) and is therefore illegal on many campsites. Another disadvantage is the large amount of smoke that usually accompanies the preparation of food.
A gas grill will be a more convenient solution, especially one that can be fed from a cartridge. There are also many models that can run with ordinary gas from a cylinder. Such a grill allows you to adjust the flame, it has a separate fat tray, and sometimes it also allows you to cook food. Some models have a built-in thermometer.
The third type is an electric grill. As it requires an electrical connection, you must have access to an electrical outlet. Access to the electricity grid at campsites is usually not free, which is why such a barbecue is rarely a good option. The advantage of such a device is that it takes up little space.
There are also mixed options - e.g. charcoal grill, but fired from a cartouche, which allows to shorten the ignition time and reduce the accompanying smoke.
