After two years of construction, along with the official opening of the newly built SLC hall (Super Light Chassis) on May 12, Hymer was the first motorhome manufacturer to start mass production of its own chassis. In-house production of these elements gives Hymer the opportunity to achieve greater independence from sub-suppliers and, if necessary, to react faster to new technological trends and market needs. Hymer is the first group among motorhome giants to take such a step.

“Hymer has been known as a pioneer in the motorhome and caravan industry for over 60 years. We are proud that, with the opening of the SLC hall, we are now the first bodybuilder to be actively involved in chassis production and thus take a pioneering step forward, ”says Christian Bauer, CEO of Hymer GmbH & Co. KG. Serial production will start in June.

The latest production technologies

With the launch of its own chassis production, Hymer is able for the first time to offer recreational vehicles that come from a single source in addition to propulsion. The newly established production facility covers an area of 3,100 square meters and connects a modern production line with adjacent logistics areas. The production processes have been designed taking into account proven LEAN methods and the latest production and assembly concepts, which will further optimize the production of recreational vehicles at the Bad Waldsee plant. In the future, customers will thus receive a complete solution with an even higher quality, as the chassis can be adapted, optimized and further developed directly at the factory from which the superstructure comes. For starters, Hymer will use the new production facility to produce the SLC chassis with five different wheelbases - from short variants (from 3.90 meters) to models based on two axles (such as the B-class MasterLine I 890).
