A family holiday in Riva del Garda

We love trips to Lake Garda . We are unable to resist the charm of this region and for several years, every year, we have been going to the Garda for at least a few days. There are at least several reasons.

You can get to Lake Garda relatively quickly from Poland, and at the same time during the May weekend it is much warmer there than in our country. The climate is reminiscent of the Mediterranean - palm trees grow, the water in the lake is warm, and the water reservoir itself is so huge that we can feel like we are at the seaside.

Imagine a few kilometers long shoreline with a promenade with a bicycle path . It runs from the port in the center of Riva del Garda to the neighboring town of Torbole . Next to the path you will find guarded beaches, playgrounds (for both toddlers and older kids), free volleyball and football fields, gardens, cafes, restaurants, sports equipment rentals, sailing schools and much more.

After your activity on the water, you can relax on one of the guarded or wild beaches . The beaches are rocky and the water is clear and refreshing.

It's always easier with a bicycle trailer

Take the famous Ponale Road straight from the pedestrian zone at the Riva del Garda harbor. It is an easy viewing trail with a gentle slope, running along the western side of the lake. Ponale used to be a car road, but for safety reasons, a special tunnel for cars was built in 1998. From now on, only pedestrians and cyclists can enjoy the charms of Ponale.

Our bicycle trailer in the walking version worked great on the route, but we were not alone. On the way, we passed many families on bicycles with trailers and with children on bicycles.

Lago di Tenno - the highlight of the program

We also went with a bicycle trailer to Lago di Tenno . A wide path runs around this beautiful lake, which allows you to go around the entire lake. We stopped there for a picnic and a bath, and at the end of the trip we went for ice cream and coffee in a tiny cafe by the lake. Above Lago di Tenno there is also pedal boat and canoe rental.

Being in this part of Garda Trentino, at the end of a hot day we decided to visit the grotto with the waterfall Parco Grotta cascata Varone . And guess what? It was the best part of the day and the best attraction for the children , who squealed with joy in the splashing water, and everyone - both old and young - chilled in dark and damp tunnels specially designed to admire the waterfall emerging from the center of the grotto . The whole tour of this place took us 20 minutes, but it was definitely worth including in the itinerary.

Lake Garda by boat

We recommend visiting the town on Lake Garda by boat . At the port, you can buy a day ticket, which entitles you to sail between the towns on the entire Garda or only in its northern part.

The children were delighted to board the ship several times. As a rule, captains are so polite that they gladly let families with children on the bridge.

Where to stay on Lake Garda?

Camping ZOO is a great place for families with children. Traffic free streets, a great playground, swimming pool and even a small climbing wall for kids. In addition, a lot of paths for walking, cycling or scooters. And on top of that, kids can see animals such as rabbits and goats ...

From the campsite you can reach the town of Arco, where you will find a beautiful old town with narrow streets, restaurants and ice cream parlors, a castle on the rock, and a large parking lot and several supermarkets. Although the campsite is not located directly on Lake Garda, it is still a great base for exploring the entire region of Garda Trentino. It is located just 2 km from the lake with which it also has a great bicycle connection.
