Who among you does not associate picturesque views of the lush hills, with vineyards hidden among them and atmospheric towns, where you can enjoy tasting outstanding local cuisine and see how local wine is produced? This is Tuscany - one of the most important points of tourism in Europe. Certainly also one of the most beautiful places in Italy. It is worth spending more time in Tuscany and apart from the well-known routes, leading mainly to Florence, it is worth visiting less known towns. One of them is Arezzo, where you will see many interesting monuments and try an excellent local drink. We will try to introduce them to you a bit!

Arezzo is beautiful

"Life is Beautiful" - this award-winning film by Antonio Benigni, set in Arezzo, has brought the city international fame. Fortunately, it has a lot to offer to tourists traveling in Italy . The provincial town, located on a hill with a height of about 296 m above sea level, was founded by the Etruscans around the 7th century BC. In the old days it was famous mainly for the production of ceramics, known throughout the world. Nowadays, when visiting Arezzo, tourists can admire it entirely on foot, reaching the most famous points, such as Piazza Grande, a centrally located and extremely picturesque square. In the past, the famous Saracena tournament was held there - this tradition is still continued today, and the city returns to its medieval roots for a few days every year. Another point when visiting Arezzo can be the church of Santa Maria della Pieve, built in the years 1140-1320, with a characteristic 4-storey façade. Many art experts consider it one of the most beautiful churches in the region. While on vacation in Arezzo , take a look at the Basilica di San Francesco, where outstanding works of the early Renaissance are collected. Fortezza Medicea, which is an excellent example of the 15th century defense construction, can be a real treat for military enthusiasts. Curiosities - Petrarch and Vesari were born in Arezzo, and not far away - Michelangelo. The city impresses with a quiet idyllic atmosphere in the spirit of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Wineries in the region

Wine lovers will also enjoy a holiday in Arezzo, who will enjoy many excellent varieties of this wine. We especially recommend you to follow the so-called "wine route" - Terre di Arezzo. During the trip you will not only be able to admire numerous monuments, but also enjoy the taste of locally produced wine. A long and winding road, stretching for almost 200 km, passes through olive groves, forests and vineyards. The history of local wine is linked to the Chianti region, where the viticulture tradition dates back to Etruscan times. Currently, this species arises mainly in the provinces of Arezzo, Siena and Florence. The most popular variety is "Classico". It might be a great idea to buy a few bottles of the best Italian wines and bring them back from your holiday in Tuscany .

Camping in Arezzo

To all those going camping in Tuscany, we highly recommend La Verna Camping Village , located in the Chiusi della Verna area, right on the edge of the beautiful Casentino Forest Park. In its vicinity you will find small medieval settlements and monasteries that you can admire while hiking. A grassy campsite in the mountains offers its guests many amenities. Among the 90 sites of various sizes, some are in the shade and others in the sun. There will also be a swimming pool, bar, pizzeria, table tennis and volleyball court at your disposal. Water scooters are waiting for those who are thirsty for experience. Children can spend time in the playground. People traveling with pets are welcome.

I like closer and longer journeys - with an analog camera and a great appetite, because I always like to get to know the local cuisine during the trip. My favorite region in Europe is the Balkans, especially Montenegro, Albania and Bosnia with Herzegovina, which I have visited several times. I dream of returning to beautiful and unpredictable Iceland. I am currently in Southeast Asia.

Where the dice were thrown
Alea iacta est ("The dice were cast") - history tells us that Julius Caesar uttered these words over 2,000 years ago, crossing the Rubicon River. The event started a bloody civil war that torn the Roman republic over the years. Rubicon formed the natural border of Italy with Pre-Alpine Gaul. The passing of Caesar and his army to the other side was tantamount to a declaration of war. It didn't take long for the waters of the river to run down with blood. Centuries have passed since the events that changed the history of the country known today as Italy . Nowadays, Rubicon no longer creates a border, the crossing of which is associated with making decisions of great importance. Today it is simply a small river flowing from the Northern Apennines to the Adriatic Sea, winding through northern Italy and ending its way at Gatteo A Mare. While exploring the estuary on foot, we come across a bronze bust of Julius Caesar, reminding us of the famous words spoken by the river. Fortunately, today we can cross the Rubicon without getting our feet wet by crossing the wooden suspension bridge. On the other side is the charming seaside resort of Savignano Mare - perfect for a family holiday . Not only people who want to relax by the warm sea come here, but also tourists who want to get to know as many attractions as possible in this part of the Italian coast in their vacation plans. And it must be admitted that it is a great base for visiting nearby resorts. The town is just 5 km away from Cesenatico, with its stunning port, which was said to be designed by the master himself, Leonardo da Vinci, and the charming old town that surrounds it. From Rimini, which is well-deserved as one of the most famous holiday resorts not only on the Adriatic Riviera, but on the whole of Italy - 12 km. Riccione, known as the Green Pearl of the Adriatic, is 25 km away. Further on, there are centers of great historical and cultural importance - including Ravenna, Florence and Venice.
