Caorle - a seaside resort with monuments
Caorle is a charming town located in northern Italy in the Veneto region. It is also one of the most popular resorts in this part of the Adriatic coast. The city has a beautifully restored, historic old town, tourist and yacht port, wide beaches, seaside boulevards and an attractive aquapark.
Caorle is a city with a rich history . It was founded in the 1st century BC and has been associated with fishing and port activities from the very beginning. This place has Roman roots , and its name comes from the Latin "Caprulae" - probably associated with wild goats grazing in the area.
The development of the town is related to its location, which made it an important seaport . In the 6th century, Caorle was the seat of a bishop and one of the 9 districts managed by the office of the Venetian podium. In the 14th century, after the pirate invasions , the city was depopulated.
The winding streets in the center of Caorle were water canals a few centuries ago. Over time, however, they were buried. The city is divided into three parts - Caorle, Porto Santa Margherita and Caorle Altanea . The historic center, harbor and aquapark are located directly in Caorle.
A walk through the picturesque old town
The main attraction of Caorle is the old town , built up with beautiful, colorful houses and romantic streets. The area of the old town is occupied by restaurants and bars with tables set outside.
In the city, it is worth going to the Museo del Duomo di Santo Stefano di Caorle , which houses religious exhibits - chalices, reliquaries and crosses, as well as six icons from the 14th century. An important monument of the city of Caorle is the Cathedral of St. Stefan , which was built in 1038 in the Romanesque style. There you can see many works of Venetian art and there are two bas-reliefs at the entrance. A characteristic object of this place is the bell tower of the church of St. Stefan , 48 meters high, which was built in 1048.
On a small hill, near the sea, there is another unique monument. It is a church dedicated to the Mother of God with the Child . There is a legend related to this place, which says that hundreds of years ago, fishermen passing by the sea saw the light. As they got closer, they noticed a statue of the Mother of God with the Child at sea. They got it out of the water and carried it ashore. The bishop wanted the sculpture to be in the nearby cathedral, but due to its heavy weight, it had to remain in Caorle. A church was erected in the place where the fishermen took the statue out of the sea.
Caorle as a holiday destination
Caorle is also a great place to relax . You should look for accommodation especially in the part of Caorle Altanea , which was built on a "green meadow" about 5 km from Caorle. This part of the city is connected to the center by a bicycle path . There are many tourist complexes there.
One of them is Centro VacanzePra 'Delle Torri - camping, which is distinguished by a convenient location, lots of greenery, and close to the aquapark and golf course with 18 holes from there. The resort has comfortable and well-equipped holiday homes with a kitchenette, bathroom, bedroom, air conditioning and a patio. There are also lots available in the shade of trees, with sanitary and electricity connections.
This place is conducive to relaxation, the more that it is very close to the beach . The center offers a lot of attractions for young people, such as a unique park with an area of over 1,500 sq m, a skatepark with ramps and other elements for making evolutions on a skateboard, bicycles, roller skates, and a phono zone for listening and creating music. For younger guests, there is a playground and a Mini Disco club. In the Centro Vacanze Pra 'Delle Torri area you will find a restaurant serving Italian cuisine and a bar where you can taste delicious ice cream and juices.
Caorle is also famous for its wonderful aquapark called Aquafollie . There you can use many swimming pools with a total area of 34,000 sq m . In addition to the wonderful, very long slides , there are also other water attractions, such as swimming pools with hydro massage (Olympic and semi-Olympic) or the fantastic pirate island with an impressive galleon. Italy, Croatia, Spain ... are the countries I would like to come back to every summer. I like to discover new places, whether it is a bustling capital city or a quiet town on a mountain slope.
