For a coffee in Salzburg
In northwest Austria, Salzburg is an important cultural center, winter sports center and the birthplace of one of the most famous European composers - the father of Requiem in D minor, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Austrian cuisine has charmed many gourmets, which is not surprising, considering its diversity. Is it a simple, modest Gugelhopf, i.e. a grandmother sprinkled with light powdered sugar like the first snowball, or a more exquisite Mohr im Hemd, or a "black T-shirt", delightfully moist with chocolate and covered with a cap of whipped cream - the very thought is drooling. For this a cup of strong black coffee and you can forget about God's world. Where is it worth visiting for such a dessert while in Salzburg? Café Tomaselli is located in the Old Market Square, the oldest cafe not only in this country, but also in the whole of Western Europe. The beginnings of its activity date back to the 18th century, and among the guests sitting at its tables are Reinhardt, Haydn and Mozart himself.
One hundred flavors of Austria
In Austria, great importance is attached to the art of creating dishes and the richness of their flavors, which is related to the history of the country and its multinationality. During your stay in the capital, you have to try the Sacher cake (Sachertorte), Viennese schnitzel (unless, of course, you are not a vegetarian) or the 3-ingredient Melange, while in Salzburg the taste buds of tourists will get acquainted with the taste of dumplings with powdered sugar or potato balls with parmesan cheese. Apart from the famous cafe, there are many others in the city, maybe not as prestigious as Café Tomaselli , but also worth knowing. In any case, there are plenty of places to strengthen forces.
If we visit Salzburg in winter, nothing will warm us up like a garlic cream with cheese or croutons, i.e. Knoblauchsuppe , which effectively drives away not only hunger, but also possible colds.
The living muse of Salzburg
Salzburg is not only a city for food lovers. It is also a famous Austrian center that hosts around 4,000 cultural events a year. It is also a city of museums, including the Natural History Museum with almost 40 pools, one of the most beautiful objects of this type in Central Europe, the possibility of watching shark feeding (on Mondays at 10.30 am) and the Science Center with 80 research stations and laboratories.
The Salzburg Toy Museum is also interesting, where you can see toys from the old days, as well as play with many of them. The facility consists of several floors with rooms, each of which offers different attractions. On the ground floor there are children's cars, sets of blocks and ball tracks, on the first floor - creative toys, a children's store and a teddy bear with friends, and on the second floor - antique models of trains and less historic, brilliantly traversing 12-meter long railway tracks.
During your stay in Salzburg, you should visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress , which also functions as a museum. It proudly rises above the historic city center, and can be reached on foot or by cable car.
Campsite near Salzburg
About 16 km south-east of the city center of Salzburg is Camping Schloss Aigen . We will pay about 27 euro for a parking space for a motorhome and accommodation for 2 adult tourists. You can come here with a pet (0.50 euro / day). The campsite is open from May 1 to September 30 and offers guests 120 places. In addition, there is a shop, restaurant and snack point, you can also buy fresh bread.
The campsite is advertised as being located a short distance from the city of Mozart. After all, it should be remembered that one of the three Viennese classics in Salzburg was not only born - here also his serenades, cassations and divertimenta were created.
