Croatia is one of the most popular places Poles choose as their holiday destination. A country famous for its countless beaches with clear waters, majestic mountains and hills, architecturally interesting cities and delicious cuisine, it will meet the requirements of even the most demanding travelers. Most importantly, Croatia can be easily and pleasantly reached by motorhome. There are countless places waiting for you to spend an unforgettable holiday. Today we present to you the paradise island of Krk situated in the Kvarner Bay, called the "golden island" because of the color of the sand on the beaches. You will get on it via a bridge that connects it with the mainland.

Island attractions

The largest island of the Adriatic Sea enchants visitors with numerous attractions, which, thanks to their short distances, are within easy reach. The most interesting part is the western part of the island, distinguished by a slightly milder climate and lush vegetation. It is worth starting your vacation on Krk with a stop in its capital, bearing the same name. The historic town of Krk is surrounded by vast vineyards, olive groves and pine forests. The center is the old town intersected by intimate streets.

You will find there the Frankopan Castle, where many cultural events take place, the Basilica of St. Kwiryna, the Benedictine Monastery and the Franciscan Monastery. The entire historic part of the city is surrounded by 2,000-year-old defensive walls. You will feel the atmosphere of the city on the famous Vela Placa, filled with cafes and restaurants. Lovers of swimming and sunbathing will love the town of Baška, known for the most beautiful beaches in Europe. Party-goers should stay in the towns of Nijvice or Malinska, where they will find numerous clubs and discos, open in the high season until the early morning hours. The last point of vacation in Croatia may be Omisalj, one of the oldest towns on the island, with a perfect view of the entire bay. The town will appeal to couples who like romantic walks along the seaside promenades.

Kitchen specialties

Croatia, despite its small size, boasts a rich cuisine with visible Turkish, Greek and Italian influences. Its diversity is also noticeable in individual regions of the country. We can distinguish Slavonian, Dalmatian and mountain cuisine. It sounds complicated, but the basic principle of eating in Croatia is its simplicity and excellent taste. Due to the access to the sea, fish play a huge role in the kitchen - grilled or stewed with vegetables. They also eat a lot of meat, especially veal, lamb and beef. It is meat that is used to make the famous "Croatian kebab" - cevapcici.

The country's flagship products include dried pork ham - pršut, sheep's cheese - paški sir or spicy fish stew - fiš paprikaš. For the brave, there is eel and frog stew, and for fans of Italian flavors - cuttlefish risotto. Don't forget about the Croatian drink menu, which is dominated by regional wines, such as dingač and postup. During your trip around Croatia , you will also try brewed barley beer in Karlovac and delicious plum vodka - slivovica.

I like closer and longer journeys - with an analog camera and a great appetite, because I always like to get to know the local cuisine during the trip. My favorite region in Europe is the Balkans, especially Montenegro, Albania and Bosnia with Herzegovina, which I have visited several times. I dream of returning to beautiful and unpredictable Iceland. I am currently in Southeast Asia.
