The flavors of Istria
Between the Gulf of Trieste and the Kvarner Gulf there is an amazing piece of heart-shaped land that is wrapped in the waters of the Adriatic Sea. This is Istria, a peninsula that belongs in large part to Croatia. This place is divided into White, Gray and Red Istria - depending on the color of the earth. The cuisine of this peninsula is diverse, it mixes the flavors of inland dishes and dishes dominated by seafood.
The dishes served in Croatia are very varied. On the coast, we can taste mainly fresh fish and seafood , while inland, filling meat stews await us. In Croatian cuisine you can feel the flavors of Italian, Austrian, Hungarian and Turkish dishes .
The seaside restaurants are dominated by various types of fish , grilled meats, seafood, olives, vegetables, aromatic herbs, figs, almonds, grapes, honey and citrus fruits. Inland, however, dishes are made with local products such as meat, legumes, grains and cheeses (mainly sheep and goat).
Istrian cuisine
The turbulent history, monuments, blue sky and turquoise sea characterize the beautiful Istrian peninsula. These aspects influence the flavors and dishes served there. Istrian cuisine is primarily fish and seafood , but the region is also famous for Croatian classics and Italian influences.
The location of this region, on the border between Italy and the Balkans, makes it served a lot of different pastas and noodles (e.g. ravioli, gnocchi) and lots of typical Italian dishes, incl. risotto and polenta . The specialty of Istrian cuisine is a pasta dish called Fuji . Inland , however, prust ham and sausages are typical delicacies.
However, Istria is most famous for its truffles - a royal delicacy with aphrodisiac properties. You can buy them as a paste at a market or in a store.
The Limski Channel, or the flavors of the sea
The Limski Channel is located near the town of Rovinj and is sometimes called a Croatian fjord . You can visit it by going on a cruise ship from Rovinj. Along the way, we will see mussel and trout farms , while on the coast we will taste delicious fish dishes combined with white, local wine. It 's worth trying octopus salad , freshly made oysters and seafood risotto, as well as mussels and calamari in batter.
An unusual feast for the palate can also be found in the area of Rovinj. About 3.5 km from the town there is Camping Polari , which has great catering facilities . It is a perfect place for anyone looking for new, original flavors, especially the flavors of the sea.
At Feral Fish Restaurant we will taste freshly caught local fish and shellfish straight from the Lim Channel, often served with an unusual garlic and parsley sauce. It is also worth ordering a dish called Buzara , which is made of shellfish and white wine.
In summer, the campsite also has the Brnistra Grill , where grilled fish , meat and vegetables are served for a light lunch or dinner, and all this is served with fresh salads, the selection of which is huge there. If someone loves grilled ribs , you should check out Adria Snack . After a tasty meal, it is worth going for an amazing ice cream at the Ice Corner .
It should not be forgotten that Camping Polari is also a great place to relax , especially after a hearty lunch. The resort includes comfortable and comfortable holiday homes , equipped with a kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom, air conditioning and a patio. There you can also use a plot with sanitary and electricity connections.
The center offers many attractions for adults (including a playground, water equipment rental, diving equipment) and children (games can be organized by animators). In addition to clean beaches, Camping Polari also has swimming pools with numerous bars, where not only cold drinks await guests, but also fruit and snacks; if we were hungry again ...
Italy, Croatia, Spain ... are the countries I would like to come back to every summer. I like to discover new places, whether it is a bustling capital city or a quiet town on a mountain slope.
