Marble Pisa

Who does not associate Pisa with the Leaning Tower in the first place? For many, the first thought is the belfry standing on the Field of Miracles, but it is not the city's only asset. It may not be able to compete with Florence or Livorno, but it is sometimes underestimated, and wrongly.

Pisa is an Italian city on the Arno River in Tuscany. Its heart is the Campo dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles), to which - to paraphrase a well-known proverb - all roads in Pisa lead. It is home to the Duomo Cathedral, the Baptistery and the Torre Pendente (Leaning Tower). There are never a shortage of tourists taking a picture of themselves in a pose supporting the marble structure. Its characteristic tilt is due to the collapse of the belfry in the sandy ground.

In a short distance from the complex, you can hear the buzz coming from the numerous cafes located on the square. When the weather allows, many people sit on the short-trimmed lawn that grows next to the buildings. There is a picnic atmosphere - idyllic and carefree.

Sacred Field of Pisa

People who prefer to explore rather than squeezing through the crowds can go to the monumental cemetery designed on a square plan. Camposanto, or "Holy Field" , is an extremely atmospheric place. It is surrounded by cloisters and there is a chapel in its center. The buildings are decorated with numerous frescoes, the most important of which are the works of Buonamico Buffalmacco, a 14th-century painter.

Camposanto is an open-air museum, one of the most famous cemeteries of this type in Italy. It is home to the most affluent inhabitants of Pisa, outstanding citizens of merit for the city, artists and university professors.

Lovers of sacred architecture will surely be interested in the 1000-year-old church located in San Pietro a Grado , just outside Pisa. This is one of the oldest temples in Italy. According to the legend, it was created in the place where the ship of Saint Peter, fleeing Antioch, stopped.

Campsite overlooking the Leaning Tower

Apart from the monuments, Pisa offers tourists the possibility of long walks in the sand dunes. Just outside the toll booths are the protected areas of the Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli Regional Park , a wild coast with beautiful coastal vegetation.

It is worth mentioning here that Camping Village Torre Pendente is located between the Field of Miracles and the San Rossore green belt. It is open from March 30 to November 2, and the stay of 2 people staying in their own motorhome costs about 30 euro / day. What better location than a campsite 800 meters from the Leaning Tower?

We're going to get to know Tuscany!

Pisa is a great starting point to visit the attractions of the region. The following are waiting to be found out. Livorno, Montenegro, Lucca and Florence, as well as San Gimignano and Cienque Terre. Tourists who like the so-called Objazdówki can also easily see the beauty of places such as Carrara, Barga di Garfaniagna or Abbetone and the Apennines. One-day excursions will enable vacationers to properly explore the area.

And what makes it so easy and efficient to get from Pisa to so many different places, even when we do not have our own means of transport? It is a perfectly organized transport hub - trains depart from it in six directions, including the Gargafagna valley, Liguria and Argentario.

Those who love the sea will have easy access to various types of beaches, ranging from sandy, to pebble, and ending with rocky ones. An attractive coastal strip stretches from the mouth of the Arno River to Livorno, while at the point where the rocks descend sharply into the sea (beyond Livorno), the beaches turn into majestic cliffs. If we give Pisa a chance, we'll see how much she can show us.

Mestre, i.e. in Venice, does not have to be (very) expensive
Cheap vacation in Venice? Sounds like a joke, given the ever-rising prices of canal and gondola services in the city, the rates overwhelm the locals themselves. However, it is possible, you just have to figure it out a bit - for example, choosing to stay in Mestre. Apparently, the Venetians are not particularly fond of tourists. According to various sources, every day (and certainly during the season) as many people come to the city to live there every day. Residents complain about the crowds in public transport, and above all about the rising prices of services. It is not about the rates in restaurants or hotels, but about everyday life - the prices of food products, rent or communication. Tourists, fascinated by the beauty, climate and reputation of the resort, often do not notice how difficult the life of the Venetians is. And those who notice these inconveniences calculate the costs and more and more willingly choose not the center of Venice, but the more affordable Mestre for accommodation or dining. The food here is just as delicious, and you can buy it even several times cheaper. For comparison, you can find an espresso in Mestre for about 1 euro, while in one of the Venetian cafes - for 4 euro. It is also worth visiting delicatessen or supermarkets and doing food shopping. Local products are exceptionally delicious, always fresh and relatively inexpensive. If you feel hungry while visiting Venice , it's better to look for bars than restaurants. A good example is the Crazy Bar, which serves dishes and drinks typical of the region. Attempts to establish contact (including placing an order) in Italian will be a nice gesture in restaurants. Even nicer - the desire to learn about traditional dishes, not necessarily pizza, which, although popular, is not a local specialty at all. Certainly, the following inscriptions in front of some restaurants will catch your eye several times: "NO PIZZA". It is worth ordering a local wine, recommended by a given place ("a la casa"). Among the beers, it is worth recommending, among others Birra Veneziana Rossa.
