May weekend by the water
May weekend 2013 in Poland
Sun, rest, joy, vacation, relaxation - if you took a survey and asked people about associations with the above-mentioned words, most of the respondents would answer that they associate them with a stay by the water. And probably a lot of people planning a trip for a picnic will go either to our beautiful Polish sea or to the lakes, which we can also be proud of.
For many years, tourists have been constantly amazed by the Land of the Great Masurian Lakes - a huge area, unique both in the country and in Europe. Every year, thousands of holidaymakers from Poland and abroad, especially from Germany, come here. The region is loved by fishing, water sports and ornithologists (including amateurs). There are many habitats of rare bird species in the area of the Great Lakes, including the black stork and the white-tailed eagle. A cormorant, considered a symbol of Masuria, also lives here. The region is so beautiful, rich in terms of nature and rich in historical monuments that visitors rarely manage to get to know all the attractions.
Pearl of Masuria - Mrągowo
Mrągowo is one of the most famous Masurian holiday resorts. Many people associate the city with the Summer Country Picnic, held in the Amphitheater at Lake Czos. Every year, it also organizes several other cultural events, incl. Masurian Cabaret Night and the Borderland Music Festival. The city is beautiful, and its beauty is added not only by the surroundings of the lakes, but also the wealth of monuments located in it. Being here, it is worth taking a stroll around the center, which consists mainly of charming tenement houses standing on cobbled streets. One of the attractions of Mrągowo is the town of Mrongoville located on the outskirts, designed in the style of the Wild West. Not only the youngest will have a great time here.
Thanks to its attractive location among the forests and lakes of the Mrągowo Lake District, Mrągowo is one of the most visited cities in Warmia and Mazury. There are nature reserves and kilometers of protected areas in the vicinity of the resort. One of the most beautiful of them is the Masurian Landscape Park, located about 10 km from the city.
The Masurian Shipping Trail
Mikołajki is also famous. What's more, the location of the town by the most beautiful lakes made it the sailing capital of Poland , so for many sailing enthusiasts (and not only) the center is in no way inferior to its dancing predecessor. There is a marina of Żegluga Mazurska and a yacht marina in Mikołajki. For 8 years, the city has also been the capital of the Polish Rally - as you can see, it is teeming with life not only in the season.
There are also harbors of Żegluga Mazurska in Giżycko, Rydzewo, Węgorzewo and Ruciane-Nida. Each of these places is interesting and equally beautiful. Giżycko attracts tourists with the annual Sailing and Sea Song Festival "Shanty in Giżycko" and a revolving bridge , which is an interesting technical monument. This bridge is unique in the country and belongs to only a few bridges of this type in Europe. In summer it is one of the main tourist attractions of the city. In turn, the rock Seven Festival has been held in Węgorzewo for several years, and the complex of fortifications from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries is extremely interesting in Ruciane-Nida.
Where to stay in Masuria?
It must be admitted that rarely in any region of Poland there are so many places offering tourists an overnight stay. With every larger Masurian lake you will find plenty of tiny campsites and large holiday resorts, the same is true of major cities such as Mrągowo, Mikołajki, Giżycko or Węgorzewo. And smaller towns can boast a well-organized accommodation base. For example, in the village of Łękuk Mały, there is the Active Recreation Center Folwark Łękuk . It is an intimate and safe campsite for tents, caravans and motorhomes, situated on the shores of a lake - it has direct access to a swimming pool with a beach. Adults pay 15 PLN / day for a stay at the campsite, and 10 PLN for a child aged 3-16. There are separate pitches for motorhomes in the upper courtyard of the farm - quarters on leveled terrain, surrounded by weeping willows. The price of the stands is PLN 35 / day.
In Mrągowo, on Lake Czos, there is Camping Cezar , recommended by tourists, with places in 14 summer houses, a campsite and a tent. You have to pay 35 zlotys for a motorhome (70 zlotys in high season), and for an overnight stay - from 14 to 20 zlotys. In turn, near Mikołajki is Camping Kama , offering guests 60 places for caravans or camping cars on a fenced and guarded campsite. In addition, tourists have a bar and a marina at their disposal. A place for a motorhome costs PLN 26, a night of stay for an adult - PLN 14, while a child under 10 is charged 7 PLN.
This is only a fraction of the whole mass of campsites that await tourists among the Great Masurian Lakes. As long as we try to book in advance, we have a really huge selection of places for the perfect picnic (such a popular region is crowded practically all year round). If you love water, the lush green surroundings of nature reserves and quiet, intimate nooks and crannies, in Masuria you will have a rest like nowhere else.
