Stara Baška hidden among the rocks

Croatia offers tourists noisy resorts with a lot of entertainment, as well as villages hidden from crowds nestled in steep slopes. One of them is Stara Baška, situated on the island of Krk. It is made for a family vacation away from the hustle and bustle of large cities.

Until 15 years ago, good Old Baška could only be reached by boat, but today it is one of the most popular places on the Croatian island of Krk. Few locals, slightly more tourists, which means it is the perfect place to enjoy your holiday peacefully in a beautiful setting.

The tranquility of Stara Baška

The peace in the village is by no means due to the lack of attractions. Its cause is very prosaic - there is not a single hotel here. Historical buildings located on a rocky steep slope prevent access to the village by bus, which means that organized tours do not appear here. Hence, there are no crowds here . At the same time, a tourist eager to rest in silence will easily find accommodation in one of the private apartments provided by the residents.

As for the beach itself, even in the season it will be easy to find a lonely place on the shore. You can enjoy privacy and the awareness of being alone with nature . It is easy to guess that in the off-season you can feel like the king of not just a piece, but the entire beach.

Attractions of the village

Despite the small size of the village itself in Stara Baška, there are four restaurants in the season. Three of them are located near the marina and serve tourists with standard dishes of the region, while the fourth one can surprise even an experienced gourmet and seeker of new culinary experiences. If someone wants not so much to eat dinner, but to take part in a real feast and is willing to pay more for it (the restaurant is more expensive than its marina competitors), should visit Besca Vecchia . It is located next to the shop, opposite the church.

Fans of fish dishes should definitely visit the marina. Many of the inhabitants fish on their own and if we manage to arrive at the marina before noon, we will have a chance to buy fresh fish from the morning catch.

After lunch, it is worth going to the beach that is the greatest tourist asset of Stara Baška, i.e. Oprna . In the season, along the road leading to it, there is a line of parked cars - tourists, tempted by the beauty of the bay, descend to it from a distance.

In Stara Baška itself you can find several beaches that are as beautiful as Oprna and the surrounding coves. However, people who have decided to rest outside the town have limited access to them due to problems with finding a parking space. So this is another argument to come here on your own and stay in a guesthouse.

Overnight in a motorhome

If, on the other hand, someone wanders the Croatian coast in a motorhome and wants to get to know the beaches of Stara Baška, he will probably be interested in the offer of Croatian camps . Right next to the village, there is Camping Škrila , where a parking space for a motorhome costs from about PLN 88 to PLN 134. An adult will spend the night there for about PLN 21-34, while a day of stay of a child costs less than PLN 4.2.

There are more beautiful places, with more attractions, with more extensive infrastructure. However, if we wander to the southern part of the island of Krk, let's stop for a moment in charming Stara Baška. Set into steep slopes, it has a lot to offer to tourists who want to relax in the surroundings of beautiful, though slightly raw nature.

Istria - idyll at your fingertips
Croatia has been tempting and captivating with conditions conducive to relaxation for years - beautiful beaches, warm waters of the Adriatic Sea, cities filled with monuments, proximity to stunning nature and the possibility of active recreation. Idyllic holidays are almost at your fingertips, in Istria, 12 hours away from Poland. The country located in the north of the country will appeal to fans of caravanning with family and friends. Find out why below. Croatia, or rather the Republic of Croatia, is a country located in central Europe on the Adriatic Sea. It borders Slovenia to the west, Hungary to the north, Serbia to the north-east and Montenegro to the south-east. In the middle of the country, in its eastern part, there is also a short border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Croatia is inhabited by around 4.5 million people and covers an area of 56 535 km2. The capital city is Zagreb and the official currency is the Croatian Kuna. The length of the coast, including the islands, is an impressive 5,835 km. It is worth knowing that the topography differs in the north from the south. The north is a lowland area with low mountains, while in the south you will meet mountains up to 2000 m above sea level. The highest peak in the country is Dinara, 1831 m above sea level. Interestingly, Croatia has a two-fold climate - on the coast it is a Mediterranean climate zone, with rainy winter and dry hot summers, and in the rest, temperate continental - with cooler summers and dry cold winters with possible snowfall.
