The most beautiful places of Abruzzo
Abruzzo, this beautiful and virgin area of Italy, is still little known in Poland. Meanwhile, it is an extremely picturesque area, often referred to as the greenest region in Europe. It is a "bridge" connecting the southern and northern parts of Italy, an area located in central Italy. Abruzzo is made up of four provinces: L'Aquila, Chieti, Pescara and Teramo. The region is famous for its beautiful coast and mountains, as well as interesting monuments and picturesque hiking trails.
In antiquity, today's Abruzzo was inhabited by Italian tribes , but in 304 BC the region was taken over by the Romans . However, in the 7th century, the Lombards ruled there. In the 12th century, this area was assigned to the Kingdom of Sicily , and the Normans took over the power. In 1240, Emperor Frederick II founded the present-day capital of the region - L'Aquila . Over the next centuries, Abruzzo was still ruled by the Spaniards and the Bourbons . In 1861, the region became part of the united Kingdom of Italy.
Teramo, the Adriatic Riviera
The province of Teramo has a 60 km long Adriatic Riviera with seven small towns. One of them is Roseto degli Abruzzi , whose biggest attraction is the beach stretching for many kilometers and historic architecture.
However, the town, known as the "place of roses", is also famous for its comfortable holiday resort, which is Camping Village Eurcamping . This place is known and appreciated by tourists from all over Europe, especially for the friendly service and animators, but also for the extremely tasty dishes of Italian cuisine, available in the local restaurant and pizzeria.
The resort offers brick holiday homes , equipped with a kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom, comfortable patio and air conditioning. Guests can also use plots with sanitary and electricity connections.
The camping has access to the beach distinguished by the prestigious "Blue Flag" (cleanliness guarantee). In addition, there are two outdoor swimming pools on site. Attractions for children and adults are prepared by a team of animators, e.g. physical activities and sports tournaments. Additionally, the campsite has a playground , volleyball, football and tennis courts and a bowling alley.
The most famous city in the province of Teramo is the town of the same name. It is a place famous for many monuments, incl. St. Bernard built in 1158, the Madonna delle Grazie sanctuary from the 15th century or the Bishop's Palace from the 14th century. Near the old town, you can see the ruins from the times of the Roman Empire: incl. amphitheater and Bruciat's Gate from the 2nd century.
L'Aquila - the capital of the region
The province of L'Aquila is the largest part of Abruzzo, at the same time the most mountainous and the least populated. This area includes the highest peaks of the Apennines , incl. Gran Sasso, Maiella and Velino-Sirente, as well as the only glacier in these mountains - Calderone .
The province is home to the capital of Abruzzo - L'Aquila. The main advantage of the town is its location: at the foot of the Gran Sasso massif, between two national parks. However, it is also famous for many monuments .
The most famous building is Forte Spagnolo - a Renaissance fortress from the 15th century, surrounded by a moat 14 meters deep. Currently, there is a national museum in this building. Behind the city, in the mountains, you can see the Rocca Calascio castle, which is considered the highest built building in Europe . L'Aquila is also famous for its fountain from 1272, in which water flows from 99 holes.
Pescara and Chieti
Other parts of Abruzzo are also worth visiting. Pescara is a seaside resort in the province of the same name. It is a charming town where modernity is mixed with historic architecture.
The old town is filled with houses dating back several centuries, there is also an Art Gallery nearby, and you can also find the largest pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Italy.
Chieti is one of the oldest Italian cities. A lot of archaeological research is carried out there, which makes it possible to visit museums rich in various exhibitions filled with local artifacts. We can visit, among others National Archaeological Museum, Art Museum, Biomedical Museum and La Civitella Archaeological Museum.
Italy, Croatia, Spain ... are the countries I would like to come back to every summer. I like to discover new places, whether it is a bustling capital city or a quiet town on a mountain slope.
