The resort of Bol, located on the southern shore of the island of Brač, has been known to surfers since the beginning of the 1970s. For many of them it is a favorite place for windsurfing, just as the local beach is the queen of the beaches of the entire coast.

Probably not everyone knows that the marble that was used to build the White House came to the United States from across the ocean - from the Croatian island of Brač. The third largest Adriatic island has been known for its mining for years, but it owes its fame not only to the valuable building material.

An island that smells of herbs

Holidaymakers on Brač are attracted by beautiful landscapes and lush, extremely aromatic vegetation. Many herbs grow here, including lavender, sage, rosemary, and chamomile. Another of the many advantages of the island is the guarantee of good weather from May to October , thanks to the Mediterranean climate. Brač's attraction is also the highest point of the Adriatic islands - the peak of Vidova Gora, located at an altitude of 778 m above sea level.

The water surrounding the island is crystal clear and very warm, it is great to dive in. Among the rocks there are many caves that can be visited by people interested in new places, as well as those who just want to cool off. On the south-eastern coast you will find the Lucice Cave , the largest in the region, with five smaller arms. In daylight, you can explore all of it, except for one place - a tunnel where artificial lighting is required.

Windsurfing for beginners and advanced

The magnificent beaches of Brač tempt windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts, among them the Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn), situated at Bol, the oldest coastal town on the coast, leads the way. Beginners in windsurfing can practice their skills until around 12:00, when the levante blows in the waters of Bol - a gentle breeze from the south. Later, a stronger mistral begins to approach the canal between the islands of Brač and Hvar. After a few hours, it grows so strong that only experienced surfers can face it. The rest should stay on the beach and admire the views with others who come here especially for this purpose.

There are a lot of windsurfing schools in Bol, so if you want to find out for yourself whether balancing on the board and operating the sail is actually as easy as it seems, you can do it without any problems.

Advanced surfers can challenge the elements at Supetar , where it blows stronger than at Bol and the waves reach 2.5 meters. Even larger ones fall over at Povlja - the northern wind splashes with water up to 4 meters up.

Beach on the island of Brač

Tourists who watch surfers only from the beach or just come to Brač to relax have a large selection of beaches surrounded by smaller and larger coves. Livka , situated at the Sutivan (Stivan) resort, in the north-western part of the island, is an exceptionally beautiful bay. You can get to it by both boat and car. There are olive groves and vineyards around, it is intimate and peaceful. In the immediate vicinity of Sutivan, there is the Stiniva Bay and the second, Stipanska. Both offer similar conditions for relaxation, i.e. relaxation without too much crowds and hustle and bustle.

It is worth noting that in July, the resort hosts the extreme sports festival "Vanka Regule" , which enjoys greater popularity every year among tourists. Both the participants and viewers have a chance to win attractive prizes.

Camping on an island

There are several campsites on the island, so that those who like to spend the night among the greenery can find the most suitable place for them. At a distance of 2 km from the resort of Bol (going towards the town of Murvica) there is Autocamp Aloa , a large part of which is beautifully shaded due to its location in a pine forest. The property has a large beach, and children have a playground and a slide at their disposal.

Whether someone is just learning to swim on a sword board, practicing with a trapeze, or skidding efficiently, you will catch the perfect wave on the island of Brač.
