Camping with a child - what to take?

Camping with a child - what to take? – main image

Holiday camping trips give children the opportunity to have fun outdoors, prepare meals together outdoors and feel the atmosphere of a real trip. However, you should prepare yourself properly for each trip, especially for the one with the little ones. In order for the road to the chosen holiday destination to be safe and the stay at the campsite to be pure pleasure for the child, we must ensure that the motorhome is properly prepared for driving and the equipment that is useful on site. We suggest what to remember when planning a camping holiday with a child!

Even before setting off, we should get acquainted with the legal regulations that are in force in the country we are going to. According to the requirements of most European Union countries, all children who are passengers of passenger vehicles (including campers) must be transported in special seats. The belts installed in vehicles are adapted to adults and in the event of a collision or an accident on the road, may pose a real threat to the child. To avoid it, it is important to choose a car seat that matches both the weight and height of our child. In an oversized car seat, the child will move excessively, and too small will not be comfortable for him. In such a seat, children under 12 years of age or up to a height of at least 150 cm should be transported. The purchased model should be mounted on the rear seat of the camper in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

When going to Croatia, for example, it is worth remembering that children under the age of 12 cannot be transported in the front passenger seat - regardless of the child's weight and height.

Useful accessories

Completing the motorhome's holiday equipment depends primarily on the age of the child. In the case of toddlers, it will be necessary to create a zone for comfortable changing and feeding. In turn, prams or special carriers will allow you to freely explore the area of the campsite. On less equipped campsites, a bathtub and a potty will also be useful. Even in summer, let's not forget about children's sleeping bags, which will provide them with adequate thermal comfort on cooler nights. When traveling with children, it is equally important to prepare meals, which will require equipment such as portable refrigerators and gas cookers or grills. Thanks to them, we can easily store children's snacks or prepare a child's favorite dishes. You should also pack pots, mess tins, light cutlery, plates, cups, a high chair for your motorhome, and a portable travel cot that can also be used as a playpen, very helpful for babies.

For a child, a camper trip is primarily a time of great fun. That is why it is important to take his favorite toys for a dream vacation, which will be useful when playing in the sand or water. Smaller and bigger children will find a bicycle useful in discovering the charms of the area, which, thanks to special racks, available in the camping accessories store , can be easily and reliably attached to the motorhome. When booking a campsite, be guided by the attractions available to children - a swimming pool or paddling pool, football or volleyball courts, a sandbox or a playground. More and more facilities also provide interesting animation programs for children, which are a great variety for the time spent away.

Dethleffs 4-travel will replace the Globe4 model
In the segment of partially integrated motorhomes, the flagship proposition in the category up to 3.5 tons of GVM is the Globe4 model. Its successor will make its debut at Caravan Salon 2015. Dethleffs produced the first motorhome in 1983. It was a pioneer in the development of both alcove and semi-integrated camper vans at one time. It is also the first German motorhome manufacturer to use a Fiat Ducato chassis with cabin. Now is the time to improve well-proven residential solutions. Motorhomes with aerodynamically profiled bodies have been enjoying growing popularity for years. They are usually several dozen centimeters lower than those in which an additional bedroom is hidden by a large alcove above the factory roof of the car, which makes the latter unrivaled when it comes to the number of sleeping places. The dilemma of choosing a family "house on wheels" has been simplified due to an interesting innovation. A few years ago, the bed lowered from the roof lining caused a sensation among motorhome users. Today, almost every company has in its production program vehicles in which we create a comfortable bedroom with one hand movement (optional electric drives that raise and lower the bed frame). This solution also determined the popularity of the Globe4 model, which since 2009 has been built in two basic specifications for the interior layout - for two travelers and families of 4. Now the successor of this model will debut.
